Published in 2009, ISBN 978-88-95665-01-6 ACCENT (Atmospheric Composition Change - the European Network) is a Network of Excellence, a new instrument developed by the European Commission within modes of funding in Framework Program VI, theme ‘‘Environment (including Climate Change)’’. Its objective is to foster the integration of the European research community in the field of atmospheric composition change, and to promote both the scientific advancement of the area as well as the outreach to policy makers and the general public. Evolving Good Practice “Training & Education” (T&E) in ACCENT aims at playing a leading role in Europe and beyond to promote creative and innovative researchers and teachers, and to encourage the next generation to move into the field. This volume presents the learning environment developed in ACCENT T&E to address needs in air quality and climate change science education in Europe and beyond, and describes the wealth of high-quality tools, methods and unbiased scientific content that has been didactically translated for use by learners and teachers at universities and schools around the globe. Learning Beyond School Book Content After the publication of the 4th Assessment Report by the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) in 2007, ACCENT T&E has intensified its efforts to reach greater visibility and to globally distribute the body of know-how, skills and competencies from the networked community of atmospheric scientists in the World Wide Web. For example, a Special Issue on IPCC 2007 in the “Global Change Magazine for Schools” series provides a compact overview on the basics of global warming for direct application in the classroom.
