About the Institute : SIES-ICS was inaugurated in December 2013 in Navi Mumbai with funding from SIES and with some support by the Analytical instrumentation companies as a industry academia partnership. SIES-ICS was founded to fill the gap in building the capabilities of students and teachers in developing their understanding of the theory and operation of chromatography and spectroscopy instruments. Till today 250 college students from the B.Sc. and M.Sc. streams visited our institute to have lectures and demonstration of these instruments. Several three day workshops were conducted on GC/GCMS and HPLC/UV/FTIR. At least 150 research scholars and industry chemists trained. One week workshop for teachers conducted. At least 50 teachers benefited so far. Sample analysis and consultation done for a few industries on chargeable basis. Dr. G Ramakrishnan, Hon-Director, SIES-ICS Dr. G. Ramakrishnan holds a Ph.D. degree in Organic chemistry (Natural Products) from BARC/Bombay University. He is well recognized for his talks in the area of chromatography and spectroscopy and in particular Mass Spectrometry. Mr. Dipak Shetty , Laboratory Manager, SIES-ICS Mr. Dipak holds M.Sc. degree in Chemistry and Post graduate diploma in Pharmaceutical business management. He is well versed in providing effective demonstration of various analytical techniques and training of analyses of samples using sophisticated chromatography instruments. Ms. Sneha Nair, Laboratory Chemist SIES-ICS Ms. Sneha holds M.Sc. degree in Microbiology from Mumbai University. She is an expert in Instrument and Chemical analysis. She provides demonstration of various analytical techniques during training programmes.

Three day certificate course on GC, GC-Headspace and GC-MS Jan 18-20, 2017 : Fees- Rs.5000/This course is meant for College Teachers, Industry chemists, M.Sc. Students and Ph.D. research scholars. The course will cover theory and principles of Gas Chromatography (GC), theory and principles of Gas Chromatography / Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) and its applications. The important terms such as column efficiency, theoretical plates, tailing factor, resolution factor and their significance will be covered in this course. GC modules such as injector, column oven, FID detector, different sample injection techniques like manual injection, autosampler injection and headspace accessory will be explained and demonstrated. Topics covered will include GC/MS Technologies like TIC, MS spectrum, Base peak, Molecular ion peak , Scan mode and SIM mode. Lecture and demonstration of GCMS modules ion-source, analyzer, detector and different modes of ionizations will be given. Participants will be shown how to setup GCMS, MS tuning, calibration, operating software, developing GC control method and MS control method, spectral data processing and spectral library searching. In the practical session hands-on training will be given to individual participants or to small groups. Participants will be shown how to setup chromatographic conditions, conditioning of capillary columns, qualitative and quantitative analyses, software operation , etc. Application in the areas of Essential oils, Flavors and fragrances, Residual solvents in Pharmaceutical APIs, Environmental and Petrochemical applications will be covered in this training. Hands-on training will be given on analysis of Essential oils, synthetic blends, Pharmaceutical raw material, intermediates, Petroleum and petrochemicals for identification and quantification of components.
