Where to find MCTC library resources Start with some basics: Most of your research will begin on the library’s home page, http://library.minneapolis.edu/. A few questions will help you head in the right direction (and save you time). Do you need a book? The search box for the MCTC Library Catalog is located on the middle right side of the library home page. Enter a word or phrase for your topic here, and see the print or online books available in the MCTC Library. [See the Quick Guide Finding Books or the Library Catalog Basic Search Tutorial for more help.]
Do you need a background or overview article? From the library home page, click the link for Find resources, then scroll down until you see Reference under the Books heading.
You will see a list of databases with reference articles. Select one and enter your search. A good all-purpose collection is the Gale Virtual Reference library, while CQ Researcher is excellent for current social and political topics. [See the Quick Guide for the Gale Virtual Reference Library or the library’s video tutorials for more help.]
Do you need a peer-reviewed academic journal article? From the library home page, click the link for Find resources, then scroll down until you see Peer reviewed under the Articles heading. You will see a list of databases that have peer reviewed articles. You will need to select one and enter a search. A good all-purpose collection is Academic Search Premier. [See the Quick Guide for Academic Search Premier or the Keyword Search Tutorial for more help.]
