Workshop: White Death Part 1: Introduction General introduction: -

Physical game without words. Immersion. A picture on the tale about the pioneers, who went up in the mountains to start a new life, but died in the snow. The humans and the white ones. Contrast. (Hard and nice). The sekvens The border and the storms Tight schedule. Experience it and don’t think too much, we will sum up the important points before the game starts. Let yourself inspire and take whatever you can use.

Exercise: Physical warm up – Music: Flash Pan Hunter Introduction to playing style. -

Not realistic, symbolic universe. Small thinks get a lot of meaning. Presence, Being in the now, following impulses.

Exercise: Count to ten with eyes closed. Exercise: Focus on how the body feels and notice details about the surroundings. Feel the body as: sudden, flowing, heavy, light, hard, soft, violent, fragile. Communicate without words. Decide upon one who is an outsider in the group. Find something to do all together.

Part 2: The Humans Introduction to The Humans -

Personality: awkward, self-destructive, scared, lonely, in considered. Searches for intimacy and want to do good things, but can’t make this happen (ruins it for themselves). Can only see the white ones during the storms.

Exercise: Feel the body as earth (heavy and hard) and fire (sudden and violent) Restrictions: drawn + demonstrated

Exercise: Try out the restrictions. Combine earth and fire with the restrictions. Try to feel/notice which kind of character this creates. How does it feel? Which kind of person is it? Try to make some kind of sound that goes with the character. Relations: drawn and read Exercise: First alone in the body. Then interact with the new relations. Play a scene where everybody is trying to do something good, but ruins it for themselves or others. Notice how your characters feel about the others. Form groups of two or three. These groups have a positive relation. Explore it without words. Find new partner/partners. These groups have negative relations. Explore them without words. Exercise whit objects: Objects will appear in the spotlight. The humans can take the objects, but then have to get back before the spotlight is turned of. One object at a time. The object is in the middle of the room. First dream/balloon, then faith/paper, then survival/sugar. Present the object. The characters can’t touch it. What does the theme that the object represent mean to the character? How does the character relate to physical the object? Make sure to make the theme important for the character and incorporate it in the character. Music: I’ll shoot the moon (Dreams), Underground (Survival), Crossroad (Faith)

Part 3: The White Ones Introduction to the white ones -

Engels, souls or snow. Personality: curious, playfull, teasing, loving, gentle, caring, happy. Have no worries or sorrow in their own domain, but he closer they come to the humans the more they feel the Humans pain and want to help them. Touches each other a lot and are most happy together with others. Cannot touch the humans and can only be seen during the storms. Can never enter into the light.

The White Ones bodies Exercise: Feel the body as water (soft and flowing) and air (light and fragile). Combine the elements and start touching each other, feel each other, see each other, sense each other, try to make each other feel safe and comfortable. Try to use your senses and pay less attention to your thoughts. Make sounds that goes with these bodies. Try how all these positive relations can be made interesting and variable without words (curious, playful, teasing, loving, caring, gentle, joyful). Mark the humans domain and explore the characters movement from having no worries

and sorrows to being concerned and feeling the humans pain the closer they gets to the humans domain.

Part 4: The transformation Introduction to the transformation -

-

During the game there will be four storms. The boarders will be weaker. The humans can be taken by the white ones, and there by become white ones themselves. The white ones want to turn the humans in order to help them. The four storms will be in the second half of the game. They are marked by bells both when they start and when they end. During the storms there is the sound of wind. At least one human has to be transformed during each storm, but preferably more. There are only four storms and everybody has to be transformed to white ones. During the storms the white ones have there focus on the humans and on trying to help them and comfort them. The humans can see them, but the white ones can only touch them if the humans take there hand and joins them, and the white ones can’t go inside the circle of light. When a human takes a white ones hand, the white one leads the human into the dark and transform the humans body. The human closes the eyes, the body gets relived from the restrictions with, the human gets a white ribbon and when the human opens his or her eyes, he/she sees the world again fore the first time and try to sense as much as possible. During the first storm one of the humans have to go out and take the white ribbon that is inside the spotlight, take the white ribbon on and transform into a white one. After that, the white ones can take more humans before the storm ends.

Exercise: Demonstration of the transformation. All starts as human characters, one takes a ribbon and transforms (closed eyes, loosen body, ribbon, open eyes, sense the world) after that the others are one by one transformed, Music (Death is not the end, Reeperbahn)

Part 5: Last preparation Questions Repetition of what is important to remember:

No language (not even gibberish) Immersion. Pay attention to details and create your own play. The human life hard lives, the white ones are happy. The humans have to maintain the restrictions until they get transformed. The storms. Four storms, bells and wind as markers, during the first storm the first human transform him and herself. The game ends when all the light is out and the music has stopped.

Exercise: All wishes each other a good game without words. When everybody is done whishing the others a good game, they find there human characters. When all have found there characters, they go into the light, the humans domain.

Obstructions:

Rubber band between hands and feet.

Magnets with opposite poles between hands and feet.

Sticks between hands and feet.

Head can’t turn, arms can’t bend.

Magnets between hands and head/face

Magnets between knees and chest, and rubber band between elbows and side.

Two-dimensional jumping jack: arms, legs and head can only point sideways.

Magnets on finger tips and toes. (Have to touch something all the time).

Magnets with opposite poles on every finger, and there is magnets with opposite poles in the toes (The feed is pointing outwards).

Magnets in cheeks. At least one cheek always has to touch something.

Marionette: strings from elbows, wrists and knees.

Gaze follows hands and hands follow gaze (fingers always pointing in the same direction as the gaze).

Head is lose (never in the middle) and fingers is always pointing down.

Magnets between toes and heels (one foot right in front of the other), stick between elbows.

Knees together, elbows and shoulders pointing backwards. Relations:

I’m better than people who are taller than me.

I’m afraid of people who are smaller than me.

People with another eye colour than me are not trustworthy.

People with shorter hair than me are weak.

I’m attracted to people with longer fingers than me.

I hate people with longer hair than me.

I envy people with another hair colour than me.

I want to control people with another hair colour than me.

I want people with smaller feet than me to take care of me.

I side with people who has the same eye colour as me.

I want to be close with people who have a different eye colour than me.

I want to hurt people with shorter hair than me.

I am more clever than people with another hair colour than me.

People with larger hands than me always tries to hurt me.

Tall people makes me angry.
