NOTICE OF VACANCY Superintendent of Schools, Winona ISD Search Consultant, Consilience, LLC About Winona ISD Winona Independent School District (ISD) is located in the northeastern part of Smith County, on Highway 155 approximately three miles north of Interstate 20. The community is between Dallas, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. Tyler, Texas, 15 miles to the south, provides medical and educational facilities. The majority of the population is concentrated in the five communities of Red Springs, Sand Flat, East Texas Center, Starrville, and the community of Winona. East Texas Center serves as the hub of the industrial base and is strategically located at the geographic center of the Tyler-Longview metropolitan area. The community is home to the University of Texas Health Center, which is recognized as a medical research facility. Widespread community support is manifested in active booster clubs and parental programs. In the school district, community pride and high expectations for educational quality serve as driving forces in the district's quest for excellence. The district has a demographic profile of 21% African-American, 25% Hispanic, and 53% white in a UIL AAA district of 1,056 total students. The 2015 accountability rating was Met Standard. The elementary, intermediate and middle schools earned a Met Standard rating during 2015. The superintendent of Winona ISD will be the educational leader and chief executive officer of the district, responsible for the effective execution of policies adopted by the district’s board of trustees. The superintendent assumes administrative responsibility for the planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the education programs, services, and facilities of the district and for the annual appraisal of district staff.
