STATE OF WYOMING EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT EXECUTIVE ORDER 2001 - 1 Pursuant to the authority vested in the Office of the Governor of the State of Wyoming, I, Jim Geringer, Governor of the State of Wyoming, hereby issue this Executive Order adopting the following workplace violence policy. This policy is applicable to all employees, officials, appointees and elected officials of the State of Wyoming executive branch. WORKPLACE VIOLENCE POLICY The policy of the State of Wyoming is to promote a safe environment for its employees and the public it serves. The State is committed to working with its employees to maintain a work environment free from violence, threats of violence, harassment, intimidation, and other disruptive behavior. Violence, threats of violence, harassment, intimidation, and other disruptive behavior in our workplace will not be tolerated. Such behavior includes oral or written statements, gestures, or expressions that communicate a direct or indirect threat of physical harm. All reports of incidents will be taken seriously and will be dealt with appropriately in accordance with procedures implemented pursuant to this policy. Individuals who commit such acts may be removed from the premises and may be subject to disciplinary action, criminal penalties or both. A false report of a threat in the workplace shall be cause for disciplinary action in accordance with the State of Wyoming Personnel Rules. No deadly weapon may be carried on or in any state premises. Any individual carrying a deadly weapon may be removed from or denied access to the state premises and may be subject to disciplinary action, criminal penalty or both. As used in this policy, deadly weapon means as defined by Wyo. Stat. § 6-1-104(a)(iv) and includes but is not limited to the following items: firearm, explosive or knife with a fixed or locked blade longer than five (5) inches. This restriction shall not apply to the carrying of weapons by law enforcement officers as defined and authorized by any state or federal statute. For purposes of this weapon restriction, state premises does not include any state-provided employee residence, state vehicle or personal vehicle. Weapon restrictions for state vehicles are covered by state vehicle use regulations. Your cooperation is necessary and expected to implement this policy effectively and to maintain a safe working environment. Do not ignore violent, threatening, harassing, intimidating, or other disruptive behavior. If you observe or experience such behavior on or in state property, by anyone, state employee or not, report it immediately to a supervisor or manager. Supervisors and managers who receive such reports shall seek advice from the agency head or the agency’s designated workplace violence contact

regarding investigating the incident and initiating appropriate action. [PLEASE NOTE: Threats or assaults that require immediate attention by law enforcement should be reported first to police at 911] I will support all appropriate efforts of supervisors and agency specialists in dealing with violent, threatening, harassing, intimidating or other disruptive behavior in our workplace and will monitor whether this policy is being implemented effectively.
