Daily Routines

+

= Arrival – Before 08:45 – time to organise and begin the day with purpose

=

Breakfast – Available for those who eat school lunches – others bring their own Home time – 15:50 – time to talk to the teacher

School Essentials Bag – Big enough for eveything! Toothbrush, toothpaste and a cup– Sent home once a month Spare clothes – For accidents Message Book- Check everyday Snack bag and snack – Small & Healthy Water – Filled with water and sent home daily Bib – Sent home once a week Nappies and wipes- Ducks only Bed sheet- small with elastic to fit the bed

I can pack my own school bag! It is important that your child can recognise their school bag and is familiar with all of their belongings such as their snack bag, water bottle, bib and bed sheet etc…. In order for them to be independent in school they need to know how to put things in and out of their bag and open and close it.

IDEAS!

Hide and Seek Hide all of your child’s school belongings around the house or in the garden. You could make it a fun game by getting your child to hunt for all of the objects, tell you what they are, pack them away in their school bag and see how fast they can do it!

Memory Game Have all of the objects out on the table and when your child closes their eyes take one away to see if they can identify what is missing.

AREAS OF LEARNING: •Physical Developmentfine motor skills •Knowledge and understanding of the World •Mathematical Development

I can eat by myself!

Good table etiquette should be supported. We encourage our children to eat independently, to sit correctly at the table and to show openness to try new food. We like our children to be polite and encourage them to say please and thank you.

IDEAS!

Over the summer you could encourage your child to try different foods that they have not tasted yet and encourage them to feed themselves. A tasty dessert is always a great incentive to get them do this. Maybe you could cook together something simple such as a fruit salad to get them interested in food.

AREAS OF LEARNING: •Knowledge and Understanding of the World •Personal, Social and Emotional •Physical Developmentfine motor skills

I can recognise my name!

We teach the children to write using the rubio script and to only use capital letters at the beginning of their names. It will help the children and us at the start of term if they can recognise their own name.

IDEAS!

Name Hide and Seek You could hide your child’s name card each day in a different place….under their pillow, at the dinner table, in the sand at the beach!!!!! You could also put the name card on the door of your child’s room. Name Puzzle You could write your child’s name on some coloured paper and then cut it up and get them to put the puzzle back together to make their name.

AREAS OF LEARNING: •Communication, Language and Literacy

When beginning school in September we aim for children in Owls to be able to take care of their own personal hygiene, to go to the toilet unaided and to be able to clean themselves independently afterwards.

IDEAS!

Praise and Encouragement Positive reinforcement and incentives such as stickers are a great way to enocourage children going to the bathroom independently. Another good incentive is to give your child a favourite book or toy when they are on the toilet.

AREAS OF LEARNING: •Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Children should be encouraged to be able to dress and undress themselves independently with special attention given to being able to put on and take off their shoes, school jumper and jacket.

IDEAS!

Clothes Race! You could make getting dressed in the morning fun by challenging your child to put their shoes, jumper etc on as fast as they can. They could even have a race with mum or dad!

AREAS OF LEARNING: •Physical Development •Personal, Social and Emotional

I can speak English! A great way to introduce English to your child is to start listening and singing songs in English, looking at books in English and watching cartoons in English. You can learn together with your child!
