Over 4 billion people, or two-thirds of the world’s population, do not have regular access to doctors. mDoc LLC, a US-based company, is working since 2013 in Bangladesh under the brand name “Amader Daktar”, to leverage cutting-edge technology to provide access to healthcare to these disadvantaged populations. Using a tablet application that serves as a telemedicine gateway, rural health providers can collect patient information, record vitals, conduct audio/video consultation with city doctors, and print e-prescriptions for patients even in areas where there are no doctors. Our work has already won numerous awards, including USAID Development Innovation Ventures, USAID Mobile for Development (M4D) award, among others. We are now expanding our operations in Bangladesh, starting to test the model in Myanmar this year, and in Haiti and other countries soon after.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR: TECH GENIE We are looking for a Technology Lead a.k.a. Tech Genie – for your ability to bring wishful thoughts to life as software!) to help us go even further. We would like to soon start integrating with medical diagnostic algorithms (HumanDx, IBM Watson, etc.) and tricorder-like point-of-care diagnostic tools (Theranos, Scanadu, etc.), standardize our patient record systems and back them with biometrics, serve targeted advertising on the platform, develop analytics products from the data, implement cutting edge security protocols, etc. Eventually, we aim to be the electronic health backbone in developing countries that connects to hospital and government record systems and puts patients’ data at their fingertips in the cloud. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT Our team is multidisciplinary, consisting of doctors and public health experts, technology geeks and coders, development practitioners and business aficionados. If selected, you will be working with a high-powered, dynamic team that includes graduates from universities such as Harvard, Johns Hopkins and Stanford, an Aspen New Voices Fellow, a field operations guru with experience of leading a 40,000 volunteer youth organization across Bangladesh, high quality doctors with extensive rural field experience, etc. You can also expect to interface with leading global experts in the fields of global health,
medical technologies, artificial intelligence and software engineering- who are part of our board and advisors network - and have them as mentors. You will work in a non-hierarchical and collaborative team (we are implementing OKRs since the beginning, and are considering going Holacratic) that is anal about building a world-class work culture and environment. You will be working on a meaningful problem, but with a cutting-edge set of technological problems to solve using cuttingedge tools. DESCRIPTION OF ROLE: TECHNOLOGY LEAD o
Develop a robust technology platform for mDoc which can be used to scale up across Bangladesh and elsewhere to millions of patients
o
Guide architectural decisions
o
Contributing to new technology development and idea generation
o
Build, lead, mentor and manage the technical team
o
Integrating cutting-edge third-party medical and diagnostic devices with the platform using Bluetooth and other wireless and wired protocols
o
Create API linkages to medical data warehouses and algorithmic diagnostic engines
o
Standardize IT development and deployment processes, including continuous development and continuous iteration
o
Work closely with the design team and product owner to understand and document requirements of the technology system (includes brainstorms, field visits to remote areas, etc.)
o
Collaborate and coordinate with product owner, Deployment and Operations
o
Ensuring timely task delivery from technical team, using Agile methodologies
REQUIREMENTS We do not care if you have a formal degree in computer science, as long as you know your SH*T. Here are the requirements: o
At least 5 years of experience in developing large and robust software platforms
o
At least 2 years experience in managing a team of developers with primary responsibility for delivery
o
Extensive past experience with major relevant development frameworks, especially Android, PHP, Java (Spring or Play framework preferred), Scala, Python, Javascript, HTML5, AJAX and MySQL/PostgreSQL
o
Curiosity and the ability to stay on top of latest advances and techniques in software engineering, including continuous development/integration, automated testing and deployment, etc.
o
Passion about code hygiene and quality
o
Experience developing software in Agile methods
o
Past participation and contribution to open source software communities
o
Experience in advertising platforms, analytics products, and medical records management will be a plus
Above all, as the Technology Lead, you are expected to take complete ownership of the technical team, the quality of the deliverables and the ability of the team to meet deadlines.
