Glenda Guest’s “Talking About Voice” 1pm – 3:30pm, Saturday 18th November @ Club Sapphire, Merimbula $15 members, $20 non-members What do we mean when we talk about voice in a piece of writing? Is it the writer’s voice? Is it the voice of each character? Is it point of view or the tense used. Is it these combined, or something else? The workshop will discuss this and work through some scenes. Glenda Guest is an Australian novelist. Her novel, Siddon Rock, won the 2010 Commonwealth Writers' Prize, Best First Novel. http://www.glenda-guest.com

Microsoft. Word. “Thanks... I really enjoyed the workshop... especially learning about shortcuts on my own computer! Also, how to personalise my doc - save as a PDF and save the template - I will use what I learnt today.”
•
“Couldn't keep up with everything but have at least learnt a few time-saving shortcuts. Excellent presentation 'banged up in three days!'”
•
•
“Topic: unexpected (Jeff Apted absent) but valuable. Helpful individual help, notes and useful tips. I need more time. No books.”
•
“Exceeded expectations. Great value for money... need follow up.”
•
“Excellent, the tutor was patient, instructive and very effective. Excellent workshop inspiring me to find more and given me the courage to give it a go.”
•
“Great tips for various things. Explained some mysteries, like macros. Formatting magic. Great deal of patience. Thank you!”
•
“Such a patient and kind presenter. You followed logically and systematically the best way to negotiate a labyrinth. I did learn plenty, especially about paragraphing and how to undo double spaces. Wish I had kept up but your trail of bread crumbs stopped at headings. Much appreciated.”
Don McDowell’s “More than Just Jotting Down the Facts” • • • •
“Informative, learned a great deal, engaging and entertaining.” “Interesting, informative & entertaining.” “Great workshop – when you know better you can do better.” “Informative afternoon.” Page 2
• •
“Useful ‘free’ discussion around presentation.” “PP notes useful and appreciate that they will be sent to us so we didn’t have to take lots of notes.”

“Off the Rails” – David Thomas They are off and racing at Towong, the favourite is running wide The outsider is on the rails, matching him stride for stride The crowd are going wild, as the bunch comes around the bend It’s a two-horse race in a field of twelve, forget the other ten The finishing post is now in sight the favourite is beginning to tire But the outsider has quickened his pace, it’s like his backside is on fire The final result at the post, is the outsider by a half a nose The punters are threatening to riot and hang the jockey up by his toes. The stewards take the owner aside and ask him some pertinent questions And tell him in no uncertain terms, a few swabs they will requisition The owner said don’t bother, I will give you something to think through All you do before the race, is read the horse a page or two From Martha Gardner’s Household Hints, about how to make a pot of glue.
