WW2 Turning Point Battle-History Fair

Hi everyone, As you know, we are going to do something different to address the remainder of the WW2 Curriculum. Together we have collaboratively created a WW 2 History Fair assignment that will require students to research and present on a major WW2 Turning Point Battle. We have determined that there isn’t a set visual or presentation format. Groups are encouraged to be creative and think outside the box. So, here is what we have come up with (so far)…: This will be a group assignment – no more than 4 to a group. Some things that you must do: 1. Research important content associated with your topic a. Background information b. What happened – 5 W’s c. Significance/Aftermath d. Voice/Opinion/Insight 2. Create a dynamic visual representation of your topic a. Neat b. Organized c. Attractive d. Creative – does the visual have the “wow” factor?

3. Presentation a. We all agree that the goal should be to avoid reading off a poster paper. Instead, the goal is to have a conversation, rather than a presentation. b. Do your best to “know” your topic. This requires plenty of research c. Insight - Provide as much as possible. Share your “take” or opinion of how events unfolded. Perhaps include great decisions or brutal mistakes made by key players. d. You must provide a brief forum for discussion so that your conversation is as interactive as possible. For example, you could have an opinion based question that promotes interaction. Grading. This assignment will be worth 25% of your term 2 mark. You are required to complete a self-evaluation report. See the following selfevaluation rubric. Please complete this honestly. Self-evaluation reports are very effective when done appropriately. Students marks are usually very close to my final grade – often students are too hard of themselves. Occasionally, students will attempt to inflate their grade. Please note, that I have final say regarding your grade We will mark the project out of 30. Here is a breakdown: 10 Marks content 10 Marks visual 10 Marks “conversation” We have agreed that these numbers are somewhat fluid, in that you can still get a great mark if you are not an amazing artist, but you more than make up for this “deficiency” by being extremely knowledgeable and dynamic in your presentation. The final grade could then become a holistic mark out of 30. The key is to be honest in your self-reflection. Due Date:

Each project will be marked out of 30 based on the following criteria: Content --------------------------- /10 Visual --------------------------------------- /10 Conversation--------------------------- /10 Content 9/10: Superior recall of factual content; key historical info. provided in purposeful and organized manner, outstanding insight 7/8: Proficient recall of factual content; key historical info. provided in organized manner, very good insight 5/6: Competent recall of factual content; adequate amount of historical info. provided in organized manner, good insight 3/4: Limited recall of factual content; lack of historical info.
