At 3:30 p.m. Transfer by Shuttle Service to the Cayo District and check in at The Lodge at Chaa Creek (The Cottage Collection). Evening free to relax and explore on your own. D Day 2 Caracol and Mountain Pine Ridge Depart from your hotel heading southwest to the Chiquibul Forest Reserve for a visit to the famous Maya site of Caracol, Mayan word for snail. Caracol is the largest Maya city in Belize and rivals neighboring Tikal in size. "Canaa", the largest and most impressive temple at this site is still the highest structure in the country. From here enjoy panoramic views of the Maya empire that once was. The lush primary rainforest setting is breathtaking. Following a picnic Lunch, continue your exploration of the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve with stops at Rio Frio Caves with even time for a quick swim at the Rio On bathing pools. B L D Day 3 Rainforest Medicine Trails and Che Chem Ha Cave Site Full day tour of Rainforest Medicine Trails. As you walk along well defined trails, your guide will point out plants and herbs once used by the Maya and still used by the Belizeans today for medicinal purposes, Samples from many of these plants and trees are sent worldwide in search for cures to illness and disease. Then to Che Chem Ha Cave site in the Vaca Falls area. This cave contains enormous Maya pottery untouched for thousands of years. (Note: Rigorous 30-minute uphill trek to cave. Physical fitness required). B L D Day 4 Xunantunich and Barton Creek Caves Today's adventure begins with a short drive to Xunantunich, Maya for Maiden of the Rock, on the western border of Belize. Before entering this ancient Maya city, board a 19th century hand-cranked ferry to cross the Mopan River. Then climb towering "El Castillo", the largest temple on this site, for magnificent panoramic vistas of the Cayo District and neighboring Guatemala. After a tasty local Lunch, continue to Barton Creek Cave in Amish territory. Equipped with canoes/kayaks and high-powered lights gently paddle into Xibalba, Maya for the underworld. Stalactites and stalagmites hang high overhead as you float past impressive calcite crystals. Your knowledgeable guide will describe the use of this cave by the ancient Maya while artifacts can be seen high above the alcoves. B L D

Day 5 Inland Blue Hole and Inland Waterways Transfer by land, stopping at Inland Blue Hole, and then continuing to Gales Point Manatee for Transfer to Belize City by way of inland lagoons and rivers. Check-in to the Radisson Fort George Hotel (Colonial Room). B L Day 6 Lamanai and New River Morning departure to Northern Highway to board river boat for cruise down the New River. Orchids, bromeliads, and wildlife abound as you cross little creeks and lagoons, as hawks and falcons can be spotted overhead. You might also glimpse dainty Jacanas lightly crossing lily pads while crocodile bask in the morning sunlight. At the entrance to the New River Lagoon, the Maya ruins of Lamanai, Mayan for Submerged Crocodile, arise into view. Huge masks depicting ancient rulers and Gods seem to materialize from the rainforest amid the chatter of bird life and the haunting call of Howler Monkeys. B L Day 7 Snorkel Barrier Reef and Manatee Watch Morning departure by motor boat from Belize City to the nearby Manatee breeding grounds for glimpses of these docile, gentle sea mammals believed by many to be the "mermaids" that sailors talked about as they suckle their young. Goff's Caye is another seven miles to the east and this small island is perched right on Belize's Great Barrier Reef, a veritable picture postcard tropical paradise. Snorkel off the pristine sandy beach with instructors for an unforgettable "Cousteau Experience", swim in the cool waters or just relax under a palm tree soaking in the beautiful view. Beach picnic lunch and refreshments are served. B L Day 8 Belize - Home City At the appropriate time, Transfer to Belize International Airport for flight homeward or next destination. B B Breakfast
