5th June 2017 Dear Parent/Guardian UCAS Higher Education Exhibition – June 16th ‘UCAS exhibitions are a unique opportunity for students – and anyone supporting them – to explore the wide range of opportunities available after school or college, all in one setting. Whether they’re interested in applying to uni or looking at alternative options, they’re sure to find something that appeals to them!’ We have reserved a place for Year 12s who may be considering applying to university to attend this regional event held at the University of Sheffield. All universities attend and it offers students the opportunity to gather information, ask questions directly to people who work at places of potential interest and generally start to get more of a feel for what Higher Education can offer. I would strongly recommend all students expecting to be with us in Year 13 to attend. Following the challenges of the exam season attending this event and the week of work experience help provide a transition towards Year 13 and help students to realise the exciting opportunities their qualifications will bring. We need to ask for a voluntary contribution of £10 to help cover the cost of coach transport. Students should take lunch or some money to buy lunch at the venue. Students eligible for Free School Meals can be provided with lunch on request. Other financial support via the 16-19 Bursary is also available to support this trip so please contact Mrs Rainbow if you think this can assist you. Over the course of the next few months, we will be providing further comprehensive support around the whole process of applying for places at Higher Education. It is worth noting that the school deadline for applications will be the end of the Autumn Term (December 2017) so, while exam preparation has been the obvious priority, it is now important to be doing some research around future options. Tutors, Mrs Rainbow as well as subject teachers and I are always happy to be available to discuss future pathways. We also constantly offer information, often via student email, and guidance around other future paths, such as routes into employment and apprenticeships. Successful completion of Level 3 qualifications is, of course, an excellent basis to progress towards future exciting opportunities. I do urge students to talk to us as much as possible about their thoughts on life after Boroughbridge High School and, as the exams finish, we will again be talking to students individually about their future options.
