y = mx + b Foldable Activity The foldable can be used as a review or a test. It is to be done in class and individually. You should make an example prior to doing the activity so you can give the students BRIEF glimpse of what it should look like (not the contents…that would defeat the purpose)! You need the following supplies: Construction paper Scissors Glue sticks Markers/Crayons Guide them through the construction of the foldable. They have to fold the paper hot dog style with the top fold being about 1 inch shorter than the bottom. Then fold the hot dog in half, and then in half again, so that you have formed 4 even sections. Unfold your hot dog and cut the shorter flaps so that you now have four flaps. You should then show them what should go on the front:
Flap 1: y= Flap 2: m Flap 3: x Flap 4: +b
The students then need to be clear that they are to cut out and sort all of the vocabulary and mathematical representations and place them under the correct flaps on the “Slope –Intercept Form” paper. Caution: Do not glue until you are sure of where you want to place everything! The students then need to be clear that they are to cut out and sort all of the vocabulary and mathematical representations and place them on the the back of the foldable using everything from the “Types of Slope” paper. Caution: Do not glue until you are sure of where you want to place everything!
