Sunday, November 11, 2012 Driver's license and the first visit from Sweden! Another week has passed and Huj what it feels like it has happened stuff. On Monday, I jumped on a plane to go to San Francisco and this year's big genetic meeting American Society of Human Genetics. San Francisco's a cool town that we have to go to again.
SF by night!
A worldrenowned martini in San Francisco. Do not like it really, but this was really good.
ASHG is really a great meeting for us in genetics. Previously, I have been at the European Society of Human Genetics, but as with most things in the U.S. are becoming a little more here. Several exhibitors and more people. Really fun to see and experience. You will also notice that there is a big meeting where the company has rented a private suite to invite clients to. Lounge sofas and free bar did not hear directly from a usual else here at work. On Tuesday evening, I went a little south to San Carlos for meeting with clients over dinner. Sometimes it's good to work. Another really cool thing was that when I logged into Facebook on Monday morning I had received a message from Tomas Haglund Flemström. Turned out that they were in San Francisco on vacation. So on a somewhat short lunch on Wednesday we met up for a little talk. Unfortunately I tvugen to run back to the conference pretty soon, but luckily, they come to our area later in December. Fun! Back in San Diego began both I and Yolly to look forward to getting our first real visit from Sweden. Mom and dad would come on Friday, so as it should be, we were trying to get the apartment in ok condition before. It went pretty well, but there seems to be a long följetång this with TV bench. We still have not found someone who we struck on. Although we got some really good suggestions on stores after the last post. Thank you! On Friday, one can believe that we would go around and most wait to visit, we had certainly done well if it was not for the small detail that we had booked into the driving test for a license. Although it has now been driving for 15 years soon, you have to prove to the California DMV that you can run. We must admit we were a little nervous when we were off. Yolly had made an appointment for driving test, first to her and then to me. Now we're not supposed to believe that an appointment means you have to run up on the booked time. No, once we got there we register ourselves in the office of a lady who was not only tired of his job but seemed to have given up on life a bit in general. You could say this without exaggeration, take the worst customer service experience you've ever had and multiply it by 10, you will also ... Yes yes, registered and ready we thought naively that we would have to run pretty soon. It did not. In the next queue, this time with the car. The time we had booked was at 12.30. Around 14 were eventually Yolly drive away in the car with an instructor. 20 minutes later she came back with a smile on his face. The license was in port! Then I thought I would jump in and take over. Yes, exactly! Wait on this page then another instructor for me to go on break. 15 minutes later, however, my instructor, and away we went. You're driving a little more on the tension when you have someone watching what you do. We rolled off into little neighborhoods, and I got to see that I could change lanes, turn both left and right, and back in a straight line. Slightly nervous I was when I saw that the speedometer showed 35mph on a 25mph road! Saw that she made a small mark in the paper and I wondered if it was somewhat screwed. Once back, we parked and she told me I was approved. Whew! Had four mines things that she remarked on, 3 was that I was driving too fast. :) It turned out later that you had to have up to 15 mines errors and still pass! It explains how people
drive here.
Licensed driver in California! Glad we steered the car home, now is actually a perfectly lawful way with temporary license. Once home, I did some more work for Yolly while we waited for the clock to become the 19th plane was slightly delayed, but not so bad. We went down to the airport to get ready as mottagningskommite. We had come to pass pretty well and did not have to wait more than 15 minutes or so. Fantastic fun to see mom and dad again. Time has gone by pretty fast, but it was still a few months since last time. Fortunately, all the same and we found each other among all who stood waiting. After a bit of rooting we also managed to get all the bags in minin. It may be that we need a bigger car! Yolly had sent home a small list of things she wanted to have from Sweden. One can safely say that she was not disappointed. No wonder they almost had overweight when they lined up for sweet treat on the table. Mums we thought!
Mums fillibabba!
This is real hard in Karl Bergska home! After a good night's sleep was actually both surprisingly nimble so we decided to take a walk down to Pacific Beach. We wanted to
showcase our favorite place on JRDN where we are now has been almost every weekend. Mom and dad were not unhappy when we rolled from there. The fact was that we actually rolled from there when I took the opportunity to buy a new bike at the shop which is right next door. They sell a beach cruiser for $ 99. Could not resist!
It blew sharply on Saturday, so kite surfers had a good day.
Almost the whole family Karlberg overall!
Today, we have introduced both the farmers market, which both really liked, as well as showing off the La Jolla village. Really fun to see the places we spend days on and fun for them to see the places in reality.
On Saturday it was quite cold when a storm passed by, but today we had a really nice day when the sun was shining and the temperature rose a bit slowly. Since it was so nice we sat all four after lunch by the water and just enjoyed. Nice to sit in shorts and t shirt November 11. The afternoon was a real fix time. Me and dad went off to fix some issues that we thought about for a while. Superb efficiency we had. Bla. we picked up a new grill that we got an early Christmas present. Wonderful Weber grill that we directly mounted together and inaugurated. Serve with grilled, we will do more!
Next weekend we have booked us in LA. We are happy to receive some tips and ideas on what to see and do there.
