zInternship Opportunity with Award Winning Startup Reading: PowWow Energy combines savings with sustainability https://iee.ucsb.edu/powwow-energy-combines-savings-sustainability Summer 2018 (Duration: 3 months) Are you ready to make a difference in the world by tackling one of the biggest issues the world faces today: produce more food with less water? The world population is expected to reach 9 billion people while fresh water resources are decreasing. This is having a deep impact on the energy and the food sectors. It is dubbed as the energy-water nexus by the United Nations. PowWow Energy is seeking a Research Analyst intern part of its R&D team for the summer of 2018. You will enable growers in rural areas to become more energy literate by understanding the cost of irrigation that includes: Rates, Time-of-Use, Net Energy Metering Aggregation, etc. You will be instrumental in helping the Software Development team by searching the relevant information, developing a test framework, performing some of the code implementation, and communicating results. You will gain experience working with and presenting to team members, customers (e.g., farm), and industrial partners (e.g., SCE) part of the Institute for Energy Efficiency at UCSB. The internship will be hosted on the main campus in the Wilcox New Venture Incubator (“The Garage”) and will be mentored by a UCSB alumnus. PowWow Energy provides a farming decision-support software suite improving crop production efficiency and profit margins. At half the cost of traditional solutions, PowWow’s hardware-free platform is perfectly suited for growers looking to increase yield while reducing farming inputs. PowWow is an award-winning start-up backed by growers, and partially funded by California Energy Commission grants. Location: Based in Santa Barbara, CA (PowWow main offices in San Mateo, CA) Compensation: A monthly stipend will be awarded commensurate to experience Project description (more information available before the interview) • The goal of the internship is to help growers understand the cost of energy use at a farm • The intern will help create an Energy Cost Analyzer module. • The intern will write several documents internally to communicate results • The intern will assist in validating software features part of a “Lean Startup”. Requirements • Currently enrolled in or are a recent graduate of UCSB with a Major in: electrical and computer engineering, environmental science, economics, or geography. • Some experience with programming and data analysis (Python preferred, R accepted) • Ability to be flexible and work in a dynamic team Apply to:
