Transportation Department • 82 Busses in Operation
• Travel more than 600 thousand miles per year • Transport more than 2,900 students per day – Once we start construction for Sunkist and Roosevelt, the number of students transported will sharply rise
• As a result of District Budget Crisis (2008), there has been no capital replacement plan in place for several years

Electric Bus Grant • Two-Agency Grant – South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) – California Air Resources Board (CARB) – Between the two agencies, provides funding for 100% bus purchase and up to $20 thousand for infrastructure (per bus) •
18 special education busses
– Bus travel range is 90 miles after being fully charged • Meets the needs of our special education program • At this time, electric busses are not suitable for the home-toschool program or for field trips
• District will need to cover additional charges per bus – Air Conditioning and Wheel Chair Lifts ($20 thousand)
Cost Benefit Analysis Without the Grant • Replace 18 SE Busses @ $70 thousand each – Price includes AC and Wheel Chair Lifts
• District contribution is approximately $1.3 million
With Grant Proceeds
• The District to submit for electric bus grant to replace 18 SE Busses • Upgrade busses with AC and Wheel Chair Lifts • District contribution is $360 thousand

Staff Recommendations • For the Board to approve resolution 2016-17/29 – File application with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and California Air Resources Board (CARB)
• Contribution from Fund 40 Capital Outlay Fund – Reserve $360 thousand for the project cost of 18 SE Busses, subject to grant approval
• Provide the Board a Bus Replacement Plan recommendation for the Home-to-School Program
