A Message from the Director of Adult Education Last September we celebrated 40 years of adult education provision in our school. This September we move on with another active programme of classes-some 40-50 courses on offer. A number of our courses would come under the designation of HEALTH & WELLBEING: Pilates, Yoga, Gardening, Mindfulness, Happiness Map and Nutrition. September 2017 sees the introduction of Health and Wellbeing as a subject in second level schools. Wellbeing includes social, emotional, physical, spiritual, intellectual and environmental aspects. To help everyone to have a common understanding of what wellbeing means the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) describe six indicators of wellbeing and have assigned logos to these indicators: Connected – do I feel connected to my friends, my community and the wider world? Resilient – do I believe I have the coping skills to deal with life’s challenges? Aware – am I aware of my thoughts, feelings and behaviours and can I make sense of them? Responsible – do I take action to protect and promote my wellbeing and that of others? Active – am I a confident and skilled participant in physical activity? Respected – do I feel valued and listened to? It is recognised that the journey towards wellbeing continues throughout our lives. Therefore in the body of our brochure we have assigned indicator of wellbeing logos to a number of our courses. Finally as part of the 40 Year Celebrations last year we held a very successful Exhibition Night for the display of the work of the Art, Jewellery Making and Furniture Upcycling classes. We have decided to organise this night again at the end of term on 7-12-17. Looking forward to seeing you in the new term, Robbie Harrold Director of Adult Education

IRISH CONVERSATION CLASS IS FÉIDIR LINN! (Barak Obama, College Greene 2011) Want to learn to speak better Irish? Want to be able to help students with Irish homework? If you answer "yes" to one or both of these questions, then this could be the class for you!

The aim of the class is to get you speaking Irish confidently, and to the best of your ability. The class will provide a supportive setting for you to practice and improve your Irish, whatever your current level, in the company of like-minded learners and with the help of an experienced tutor. The emphasis will be on listening to, and speaking Irish. Basic points of grammar will be explained on a need-to-know basis as they arise in class. We will also look at the many helpful resources that now exist on line for learners of Irish. The class will be of particular benefit also to parents/guardians in helping students with Irish homework. With that in mind, we'll take time to examine the current Irish textbook in use and look at typical homework assignments. Remember, over 300,000 people in Ireland speak Irish. If you have a desire to improve your Irish there is no reason at all why you cannot achieve your ambition.

As Barak Obama said as Gaeilge, in College Green, Dublin in 2011: Is féidir linn! (We can do it). So can you, of course. Course: 411 l Tutor: Martin Moore l Cost: €110 Thursday Classes l 21
