Why Metro-wide Transit? The Need an d P romise

➢ Enhancing equality of access to jobs, job training, higher education, grocery stores, doctors offices, cultural and natural gifts of the region. ➢ Enhancing quality of life through more convenient and productive commuting, opportunity to age in place, reduced drunk or texting drivers. ➢ Enhancing environmental care through curbing carbon emissions and complementing biking, walking, and public placemaking. ➢ Enhancing economic development through attracting and retaining young talent as well as facilitating workforce development, employee commutes, and access to commerce.

Proposed System and Routes

➢ Operating in cities around the country, Bus Rapid Transit functions like light rail – arriving at a station every 10-15 minutes, going at the speed limit, using dedicated lanes coordinated with traffic signals, offering Wifi and bike racks – but it is far less expensive than light rail. ➢ Four BRT lines along routes 250, 360, 60, and 1 would vault Richmond from the bottom 10% to the top 10% among US metro areas with regards to accessibility via public transportation.
