Nau mai, hoki mai Dear Parents, Last night I managed to watch the two Loburn football teams in action in their final games of the season. It is great to see the enthusiasm on display and the level of positive support for both teams. Special thanks must go to Harry Kelso and Alex Orchard for their efforts in coaching both teams and the encouragement they both gave to all of the players. I know the players in both teams appreciated the time put in by the senior boys. The same goes with all those involved in the Friday night basketball competitions. We have been fortunate to be able to get quality coaches for each of the teams and continue the strong focus on basketball for our middle to senior students.
Students may bring a beanbag, cushion and or PJ’s. Please take these to the library in the morning.
I hope you all enjoyed the student led conferences last week. The move to this style of reporting gives the students greater ownership of the learning, makes them more accountable, helps students understand the process of reflection and self-evaluation, and gives them a chance to improve their oral communication skills. I sat in on many conferences and it was great to see the level of confidence the students showed in articulating their goals. If further information is sought then the teachers will gladly accommodate your request. Please contact them directly.
In the newsletter is a copy of the Friday Hot Food Order for term 2. The best option is to order for the whole term in one go.
Swimming Lessons We made a mistake with the cost of the swimming lessons delivered earlier this year. The cost is $15 per child, not $10 per child is previously noted. Apologies for this. We will add $5 per child to your next account Rakahuri House have finally won the termly house competition. Tomorrow they will celebrate with a movie, popcorn and chips in the Mt Thomas Room.
Loburn Facebook
We finish the term off with a topic sharing session tomorrow morning. Between 10.45am and 12pm the students will move around the rooms in their houses, answering questions related to our Power topic. Parents are welcome to come along and join in. Mt Thomas Walks Friday 5 May I have added a list of the parents / community members who have volunteered to help with the walks around Mt Thomas. Please check to see if I have the details correct. If I have missed you off, please let me know. We are still looking for more helpers. Thank you.
Next term our focus turns to a school production, which will involve all of the students. It will incorporate dance, drama and the arts around our theme of “Power”. This will be held in the last week of the term and we will be asking for parental help with costumes etc. Wearable arts will be the theme for the costumes. Please start collecting materials for this. I will be able to give you more details early next term. Thank you for the wonderful support you continually give us. Have a wonderful Easter and holiday break with the family. Lets hope there is some sunshine behind this rain. Hei konā rā Stuart
