Following the Message 1.) vs 4 “In him was life…”, means- before anything else but God, there was ALREADY life in God. This is a truth of God’ SELF-EXISTENCE. 2.) The scriptural Truth of God as Creator is perhaps the most assaulted truth of all. If the world successfully ELIMINATES the concept of “CREATION”, it then can get rid of a Creator. This leaves individuals free to live however they want, absent of RESPONSIBILITY to a Creator King. 3.) The Bible teaches LIFE gave rise to MATTER; physical matter DID NOT give rise to life. First there was life, then physical matter and energy came because, “In the beginning was the Word… and in him was life.”

For The week ahead:
4.) vs 5 Despite Satan’s furious assaults on the Light, the darkness did not OVERCOME or conquer as it sought to EXTINGUISH the light and life.
John 1:12 states plainly; NO ONE would come to believe in Jesus unless He gave them the right to become children of God. It is entirely the work of God when He calls us through His Holy Spirit. We are saved entirely by “grace … through faith; and that not of ourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast” Eph. 2:8–9
5.) We can know that John the Baptist was the “one sent from God” through 4 forms of Biblical confirmation:
How does the reality of the Truths you’ve heard today change or help your perspective of God? Have you gained further insight into the image or “portrait” of God?
1) - fulfilled OT prophecies regarding Messiah’s forerunner 2) - his birth was miraculous/parents were old - (Luke 1:7, 36) 3) - angel came to tell Zacharias/son be the forerunner of Jesus (Luke 1:8–17) 4) - Holy Spirit filled Zacharias to prophesy concerning John (Luke 1:67–79)
6.) When vs 9 says this light “enlightens everyone”, it means Christ’s light-giving life is OFFERED to all as the only remedy. So, “the true light enlightens everyone” means everyone who RECEIVES it.
How can you apply the principles of these truths this week?
7.) vs 11 is speaking of the Nation of Israel as a whole (not all/but most). In spite of all their many SPIRITUAL ADVANTAGES they have been blind to their own Messiah! 8) In vs 12 we see that to “receive” Christ means more than mere INTELLECTUAL acknowledgment. Those who receive are those who believe in “His name”, meaning the TOTALITY of Christ Jesus as Savior and Lord of your life.
How might these issues be carried into your prayer life?
