Students will rotate areas every 9 weeks. Health Careers Fundamentals: Gr. 10 This course provides classroom training in basic health care for students to see if they are interested in a career in the health care field. Students will have hands on activities related to the health care industry such as learning to check vital signs, basic medical terminology, patient care practices as well as learn about a variety of health care jobs available and the types of training required. 21st Century Skills: Gr.9 Semester class. This course is a semester requirement for all 9th graders to prepare them for 21st Century technology skills. Students will cover such topics as cyber safety, digital citizenship, Google use, Kuder Navigator set up for online career exploration and an E-portfolio. Students will also learn basic Microsoft Office skills not addressed in junior high courses. Pending DNUSC approval. Microsoft Office: Elective Gr. 10, 11 & 12 Career preparation course for entry level office-based tasks. Students will complete projects in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Outlook that simulate real-world business and medical office tasks. Television & Video Production: Gr. 9, 10, 11 &12 This course covers all elements involved in TV and Video production. Through “on the job” experiences, students will be involved in the production of both live and taped news stories. This course includes the creative process of information gathering and the technical aspects of the news delivery process. Students will learn digital camera use, production of TV and video formatting and writing script forms will be covered. Students are expected to participate in all production aspects.

Introduction to Mass Media: (Gr. 10,11,12) Semester class. Students will learn about and analyze how mass media and advertising affects them in their everyday lives. Additionally, class participants will produce multiple works in media while learning principles in written and broadcast journalism. Contributing to the Del Norte High School student news website, titled the Warrior Times, and to the student news broadcast title the Del Norte Report is a class requirement.

Web Page Design & Coding: (Gr 10,11, 12) The class will focus on basic design, layout and construction, setup and maintenance of a web site. Students will use Google Sites to create, edit, and share and manage a website. Some students will work with teachers as “clients” to assit in maintaining teachers’ websites and class websites. Students will also begin to learn coding. Using Kahn Academy, Code Academy, students will develop the skills to write Google Apps Scripts to insert into their sites to bring a dynamic look to pages. Computer Graphics & Animation: (Gr. 10,11,12) Using basic computer programming skills (Basic, C) along with a ray tracking program (POU ray), students will learn to generate photorealistic images and then learn how to animate them. Technical Support: Gr. 9, 10, 11, 12 Co-requisite: Freshmen must be concurrently enrolled in Intro to CTE. Students provide school technical support as a technical assistant assigned to specific classrooms and on –call classroom technical assistants. Computer Maintenance & Repair ROP: Gr. 10, 11, 12 Student must be 16 years old by Nov. 1 Students will be prepared to install operating system programs, operate, maintain, and service computers and diagnose operational problems with computer hardware. Students will develop professional attitudes and abilities through group interaction while completing assignments and projects. Students will utilize lab training to identify components, determine possible remedies and accurately replace new and/or used components to reconstruct units to full operation. Students will be able to dismantle systems and to identify equipment breakdown. Computer Aided Drafting: Gr. 9,10, 11, 12 This course replaced Architectural Design. Computer Aided Drafting ROP (CAD) is an introduction to the use, care and concepts of a typical CAD system. The students will use a “hands on” approach to develop skills in operating a CAD system. (See DNHS course catalogue for more information.) Construction Technology: Gr. , 10, 11, 12 This course is recommended for students who are interested in the construction industry. The purpose of the course is to provide a handon, activity-based experience in terms of exploring the fundamentals of the industry. The students will receive instruction in the areas of residential framing, layout, plumbing, electrical wiring, welding, masonry, blueprint reading, and model building. The construction students will also learn the safe and proper use offhand and power tool operation. This course has no prerequisites. Wood Technology: Gr. 10, 11, 12 Prerequisite: Construction Tech. Advanced wood tech. expands all skills learned in previous construction classes. Emphasis is on problem solving and college level projects. Carpentry ROP: Gr. 10, 11, 12 Prerequisite: Student must be 16 years old by Nov. 1 Recommended: Construction Technology. Normally taken for 2 consecutive periods. Offers actual construction experience. A complete residential dwelling is constructed in sequential classes, with exposure to all phases of construction including: safe tool use, plan reading, estimating, codes layout, foundations, framing, roofing, siding, mechanicals and interior finish. This is a hands on experience Manufacturing Technology 1/Metals 1: Gr. 10, 11, 12 Students learn basic gas welding practices, drill bit and tool bit sharpening, machining on the metal lathe, sheet metal work, foundry and hand tool projects. After the required projects are completed, individual projects are designed and constructed.

Manufacturing Technology/Metals ROP: Gr. 10, 11, 12 Prerequisite: Manufacturing technology 1. Student must be 16 years old by Nov. 1Students may earn C/R credit through the 2+2 program. Concentrates on all phases of welding and machine shop. Students learn how to vertical weld and use the MIG and TIG welding machines. Instruction covers projects that include the use of the metal lathe, drill press, milling machine and shaper.

Automotive Technology ROP: Gr. 11, 12 Students must be 16 by Nov.1 This course will cover basic shop safety, proper use of tools, types of repair shops, basic car service information, basic shop operations and an introduction to tools use including hand and power tools, electronic test equipment and basic automotive service and vehicle care. Students will also explore the various careers available in the auto industry and the post secondary options for training after high school. Students can expect 2 to 3 days of class lecture, textbook and service manual reading. Students are expected to bring a pencil and paper to class daily. Grades are based on student lecture participation, small group participation, small group participation and shop participation This course is NOT a project course for students to bring in cars to work on. School cars, small engines and auto engines are the materials used for construction Advanced Automotive Technology ROP: Gr. 11, 12 Students must be 16 by Nov. 1 In this course students will learn how to use service information, engine principles and systems, electrical systems, heating and air conditioning, tire and wheel balance and rotation, drive train, brake systems and service, suspension systems and steering systems. Students will also explore the various careers available to them in the auto industry as well as post secondary options for additional training and experience. (pending DNUSD Board approval) Agriculture 1 – Introduction to Agriculture: Gr. 9, 10, 11, 12 Primarily for 9th grade students. Fulfills one year Physical Science requirement. Introduces students to the vast field of agriculture. It consists of the following areas of instruction: California Agriculture, Animal Science, Plant Science, Careers in Agriculture and Leadership. All students are required to have a supervised project during the year *Introduction to Agriculture may be used to fulfill 1 year of Physical Science requirement. Advanced Agriculture ROP: Elective. Gr. 10, 11, 12. Prerequisite: Agriculture 2 or instructor’s approval. Students must be 16 by Nov.1 A course designed to give complex knowledge and understanding of the advanced cluster areas of Animal Science, Agricultural Mechanics, Agricultural Business Management, Horticulture, and forestry & Natural Resources. Advance student project is required. Agricultural Biology: Gr. 10, 11, 12 Agricultural biology is a laboratory life science course designed for the college–bound student. The course emphasizes detailed knowledge of the biological principles of the following areas: molecular and cellular aspects of living things, structure and function of agricultural plants and animals, genetics, physiology, plant and animal diversity and principles of classification, ecological relationships, and animal behavior. UC/CSU ROP Floriculture: Elective Gr. 11 & 12: The Art of History and Floral Design provides an introduction to artistic and creative perception including aesthetic valuing through a series of projects in various media including tempera, pencil, flowers, tile, and variety of papers. Various assignments are based on abstract two and three dimensional designs, historical culture and theory, color theory, and analytical critiques of various floral art works using design vocabulary in conjunction with development of technical skills in floral art will serve as a foundation for more complex works such as multi-part floral designs and creative expression through wedding consultations. Work Experience: Gr. 11, 12 Credit is earned by attending one mandatory weekly class per Work experience period in addition to occupational skills and knowledge developed by on the job experience. Students desiring Work Experience need to make an appointment with Work Experience Coordinator for an interview. Applicants are appraised for placement on the basis of their needs, abilities, interests, attitude, citizenship and attendance. Enrollment is limited by job site availability and the number of work experience sections offered.
