Nutrition Intuition
In 1987, Registered Dietitian Karen Fynan built a company based on the principles of Nutrition & Service naming her company Nutri-Serve Food Management to reflect these beliefs. Nutrition has always been at the forefront of menu planning with the goal of creating a serving line that teaches our customers about healthy meals. We believe our exponential growth to over 80 districts over the last 25+ years is a result of our commitment to serve tasty and healthy meals to our customers. Nutri-Serve’s Corporate Dietitian, Kristen Mueller, RD, works collaboratively with our leadership team to plan our monthly menus and provides nutrition support and education to students, athletes & staff. Make a Family New Year’s Resolution
A resolution will be easier to keep with the support of each other! As we enter 2015, it is a great time to reflect on the past year and set goals to maintain or improve healthy habits as a family. GOAL 1: More Family Meals– thefamilydinnerproject.org offers tips and ideas to get the family together for meals. They have discovered that families who dine together have lower rates of obesity, perform better in school and have better self-esteem. And it’s not just dinner! Take time on the weekends to spend any meal together and reap the benefits. They offer tips for getting children involved, good conversation starters and more! GOAL 2: Get Moving– Making a habit of going for a family walk after dinner several times a week is an excellent way to get active and promote bonding. Check out local hiking trails for “weekend walking adventures”. Click on this link to view NJ Walking/Hiking Trails. GOAL 3: Less Screen Time– It is recommended that screen time (television, smart phones, computers, game consoles etc) be limited to 2 hours or daily for school age children.
Enjoy a longer family dinner and go for a walk after and you will consequently cut back on that screen time at night!

Our nutrition education involves the healthy marketing of our serving line. Balloons for a To teach the concept of balance to our elementary-aged customers we use the concept of Balloons for a Balanced Lunch. Each balloon represents a different food group. Blue is milk, Red is fruits, Green is vegetables, Yellow is grain, Purple is protein. A lunch tray with every color balloon is a healthy one!
