General Walton H. Walker Chapter 215

THE BULLDOG BUGLE

IN MEMORY OF HONORED CHAPTER MEMBER, COLONEL JAMES L STONE, MEDAL OF HONOR, DECD. PRESIDENT’S VIEW JUNE 2015 At our last meeting, it was with great pleasure for Pastor Yong In and his wife Soo In to join us at Don Jones invitation (picture left). If you remember, our early meeting place was a Korean Baptist Church in Arlington and Yung In was the pastor. At my request, Kay Lee Cameron invited three lovely guests from the Fort Worth Korean Women’s Society -- Jenny Grubs, Chae Swob and Eun Joo Maxwell (picture below). They wanted to get acquainted and volunteered to have 4 or 5 Korean ladies from their Society ride in the Arlington July 4th Parade dressed in their native costume – in addition, at some later date they also want to entertain us – more details to follow. For those going on the Honor Flight June 12-13 you are required to attend a mandatory Pre-flight meeting on June 6th at the Highland Oaks Church of Christ, 10805 Walnut Hill, Dallas 75238; 214-342-6060 from 10:00-12:00 PM. Share a ride if you can. On June 12th we’ll all meet for the flight at Love Field 2nd level (F2329) at 7:00 AM. The trip will return June 13th at 10:00 PM (F1894). This trip is the first with so many (20) going from the same chapter. Hope we get some publicity. We also had Jack Cooper bring guests Linda & Richard Martin to this meeting (see picture left). Linda’s father was in North Korea and she has a presentation to make at a future meeting. Sounds great! Please note the June 20th membership meeting is our election of officers. Ballots will be in the Bugle and at the reception desk. Get your ballots in as early as possible so that they can be counted prior to the meeting. I want to conduct this meeting differently than past meetings; I would like to make it more formal with recognitions of positions served and to welcome the new officers. It’s still not too late to apply for the $2000.00 Korean Veterans scholarship program – deadline is June 15th. If you have an eligible grandchild who qualifies, please call me for an application at 817-8604050.

Several officers (Joe Arnosky, Jim Wetmore, Larry Kinard, & A.J. Key) visited with Bill Hoyle and his backyard Railroad followed by a buffet lunch at a Waxahachie restaurant. He is still in good spirits and eats well. Give him a call or write a note – he loves us all at KWVA 215. A good time was had by all! See everyone in June. Jim Wetmore, President

Upon leaving Korea I was sent to Aberdeen Proving Grounds where I worked as a Finance Clerk in the 16th Finance and Disbursing Unit. I also received my GED in January 1957 several months before I would have graduated had I stayed in school. I was separated from the Army and returned to Union City, Indiana. In Union City I worked as a truck driver for the Johnston Furniture Company. I was able to finally purchase a Standard Oil Company service station and was runner up in the state of Indiana for the “Mystery Shopper” of Standard Oil. I moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. I got a job with the Oneida Bus Division on the final assembly line. I reenlisted in the Army in 1961 and was sent to III Corps, Fort Hood, Texas. During my stay at Fort Hood my duties involved selecting personnel and filling units up with various job skills from resources in the United States and assigning them to units scheduled for departure to Vietnam. I was then assigned to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. where I worked screening personnel that completed basic training and insuring that they were assigned to a career field commensurate with their skills and capabilities. I retired from the US Army in October 1978 as Chief Warrant Officer 3. Since retiring from the US Army I accepted a position in Southland Corporation and was assigned as Supervisor in the Fort Worth, TX area where my duties were to supervise personnel responsible for ordering drugs and dated merchandise in the Seven Eleven Stores. I later quit Southland Corporation and bought a Convenience Store and operated that for a four year period with my wife. My lease was up and it was time to rest so I bought and operated a Pizza Store, again with my wife. I was then employed by Church's Chicken where I managed several stores. I was then appointed as Training Manager for all Managers’ in Dallas Fort Worth area. That is where I was appointed a Master Merchant in the Church's Chicken Corp. I later was a trained Union Carpenter. I helped build the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, and the Gallery Mall in Dallas. Most of the rest of my time I was building kiosks that were sold and being shipped to all corners of the United States. In 1996 Vietnam and Agent Orange caught up with me and I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (bone cancer) and given 7 years to live. I was declared to be 100 percent disabled and unemployable.
