List of Contingency Scope Adds Relocation of One Existing Mural & Digital Mural Reproduction: Estimated Cost $15,000 Except one mural, all existing murals in the high school building which will be demolished, cannot be relocated. The murals have a historical and sentimental value to the alumni and community. This proposal is to digitally reproduce murals to a wallcovering for application in the new building. One mural is proposed to be relocated because it is safe to do so. The School Building Committee voted to approve relocation of one existing mural and creating a digital images of the others, but hold off on reproducing them to a wallcovering. The reproduction to a wallcovering will be reviewed at a later time. This may be an item done separately once funds are allocated or donated.

Touch Screen Monitor for Athletic Archives (Item is now closed): Millwork and Electrical (approved to proceed). Actual Cost $5,385 Touch Screen and Software: Touch Screen and Software will not be purchased. There has been an ongoing concern from alumni of the Lunenburg Public Schools about future location of trophies and awards that are displayed in the existing high school after the high school is demolished. Base contract for the new building allowed for some display, however it would not accommodate all the trophies and awards on hand. A digital display was suggested as an option to create a digital record of past winnings, trophies, articles and awards for Town Of Lunenburg’s Public School sport and other events. The digital monitor is proposed to be incorporated in the trophy display area. Some more recent or memorable trophies will still be placed in the display around the monitor. With help of a preloaded software, any one will have the ability to look up an event, game or person with related information. Such a display provide access to the high school’s history, highlight alumni contributions and server as bridge between current and past LHS students and town residents. During School Building Committee Meeting on 12.9.15, Construction Team had asked for Authorization to proceed on electrical and millwork work because it would be a more efficient way to complete this work had the work been approved. Approval to proceed was obtained from the Committee. However, a hold was placed on the software selection as it was a costly item which has a potential to be simpler and less expensive. The School will reach out to local communities and alumni for information on any potential options for a software and the programing options with goal to find a less costly option for the software. Also under consideration is fundraising for the monitor and software. This item will be further reviewed by the community and the LSB Committee. During School Building Committee Meeting on 2.10.16 the cost for electrical and millwork was approved for $5385. This item is closed. Software and Touch Screen will not be purchased at this time.

Provide Artificial Turf @ New Athletic Fields Estimated Cost $1,000,000 At present the new athletic fields call for a sod field. A natural grass field requires yearly maintenance of the grass, soil etc. The grass field is prone to weather related damage such as flooding and frost freeze. This prevents games from taking place following extreme fall and winter conditions. The athletic director requested consideration to have one of the 3 new fields an artificial turf field as an option to better meet the demand for fields by the schools and community. A turf field requires replacement every 10-12 years depending on frequency of it use. During School Building Committee Meeting on 2.10.16, Landscape Architect presented facts about Turf and Sod field maintenance & long term wear. A number community & faculty members presented additional facts and opinions on the subject. Further review will take place at the subsequent School Building Committee meetings.

Reconfigure Parking Lot @ Passios Estimated Cost $250,000 Thomas C. Passion building and Brooks House will be turned over to the Town with the opening of the new school. The project’s site plan included parking associated with the Passios building. Although the number of parking spaces remaining on the school site meet MSBA requirements, the available parking will not meeting the School’s maximum capacity needs during high volume events and games. As a result, project’s design team issued a proposed reconfiguration plan that will provide the school with adequate parking when the Thomas C. Passios is released to the Town. At present the School and Design Team reviewed the scope of work, parking requirements as well as other less costly options to provide expansion parking opportunities for major events. Although no conversations took place at the 2.10.16 School Building Committee meeting regarding this subject, this item is likely to be removed from the list due to sufficient parking during standard events and day to day operations. Major event parking logistics will be further reviewed by the district.

Site Digital Sign Approved to proceed on electrical scope. Estimated Cost $61,603 Base contract includes a granite sign with Lunenburg Middle/High School naming information and address. It came to the Team’s attention that there is no place to display information about current meetings and school events in the proximity of the school. There are currently two current signs, one of which will be removed as part of Phase 2 of construction the other will be turned over to the Town along with the Brooks House and TCP. The proposed digital sign would be located on school premises. The design will be incorporated with the new granite sign currently in base drawings. The overall design is simple with basic wireless capabilities for ease of posting information. The Design Team issued proposed design and sign manufacturer information for pricing. The Construction Team provided a price for installation and asked LSB Committee to vote on approval to proceed with electrical installation of the scope only. This work will be done underground which is cost efficient to do while site sub-contractor is still mobilized. In the event that the sign construction is not approved, the installation can be done at a later time when funds are available, however no excavation will be required as the underground electrical work will be complete. LSB Committee voted to approve electrical portion of this work.

Provide Air Conditioning to Classroom Wings System Design Work (approved to proceed on design work only). Actual Cost $6,600 Estimated Total Cost: $500,000 The building infrastructure is designed to accept additional cooling capabilities for classrooms, however the actual cooling system for classrooms was value engineered during cost estimating phase of the project. It has been determined that in order to understand an additional cost for the added cooling system minimal design work is required by the architect on board. The architect provided an addition fee proposal range of $5,000 - $10,000 to issue this scope of work for pricing. LSB Committee voted to approve the design cost for this system in order to understand the actual added cost. Should this work not be approved a design will be available to proceed with in the future if funds are available. The extremely hot classrooms in school buildings without mechanical cooling capabilities are a concern of parents, faculty and the administration. Additionally, there are increasing numbers of students with health conditions requiring air conditioned. More students are also required to attend summer.
