Set in a small, cramped, studio apartment in New York, three cousins gather to mourn the loss of their beloved grandfather. Though their bloodline brings them together, their contention over their faith may tear them apart. Come watch as the time for mourning transforms into a heart wrenching battleground where the weapons are the family’s own history and legacy. Who are we and what makes us American? In a time of social and political unrest, future generations have a unique opportunity to redefine what it means to be American in this time and place in history. Using the stage as their mouthpiece and their experiences as research, students will create a new piece of performance art that shows us what they think America is—in hopes that it will help us understand what it could be. Love, independence, and mistaken identities collide between three very different couples. Which couple will truly find their “match”? Find out in Wilder’s classic farce. Written by one of the most acclaimed American writers in history…Thornton Wilder won two Pulitzer Prizes for drama (Our Town, Skin of Our Teeth), one Pulitzer for literature (The Bridge of San Luis Rey), and a U.S. National Book Award (The Eighth Day). The shows may range from mad-cap to mystery, comedy to drama, and are sure to be a delight. In true festival spirit, each performance will feature a different rotation of shows—come once and see a few or come every time and see them all!
THE LITTLE PRINCE By Rick Cummins and John Scoullar Based on the book by Antoine de Saint Exupéry Directed by Annaliisa Ahlman Thu., May 3, 2018 • 10:00 am (free community performance) Fri. & Sat., May 4 & 5, 2017 • 4:00 & 7:00 pm Drama Performance Center Adapted from the beloved 1943 novella by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince tells the story of a pilot stranded on a deserted island who befriends a young boy who fell from the sky. The unlikely pair’s time together reminds us of the joy of wonder, imagination, and childlike innocence.
