about the institute

The Writing Institute is designed for K-8 educators, classroom teachers, school administrators, and curriculum specialists who are committed to turning classrooms into richly literate writing workshops. During this five-day institute, small and large group sections will tackle, headfirst, the central role of curriculum development and planning in the teaching of writing, units of study in writing, and genre studies in narrative, opinion, and information writing. You will also learn practical way to hold students accountable for doing their best work. You’ll hear ways that literature can help your students craft their writing.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This institute is for K-8 participants who have not attended a previous weeklong TCRWP writing institute. Those interested in advanced or administrator sections are encouraged to apply to institutes at Teachers College.

THE INSTITUTE WILL BE HELD At the American School of Barcelona cost:

The noncredit registration fee for this institute is $950. This cost includes lunch Monday-Thursday, but does not include housing. You will be notified by e-mail if your application is accepted. At that point, we will suggest nearby hotels. Your acceptance e-mail will provide a link for payment (credit card or PO only). Please do not make any travel plans or reservations before you have been accepted into the institute. Graduate credit will not be offered for this institute.

Monday, July 3rd to Friday, July 7th, 2017. Registration begins at 8am on Monday, the 3rd and the institute runs from 9am to 3:30pm each day.
