ELIGIBILITY 1.  Hold PI (or exceptional PI) status on your campus 2.  Proposal includes at least two PIs 3.  Proposal includes PIs from at least two UC campuses: Berkeley, Davis, Davis Health System, Merced, Santa Cruz, Riverside 4.  Other UC campuses can participate, as long as the primary two are from campus list above

EXCLUSIONS 1.  Funds may not be used for faculty salary or nonresident tuition. 2.  Each PI may participate in no more than two proposals per application cycle, and serve as lead researcher on no more than one proposal per application cycle. 3.  PIs who have previously received a CITRIS Seed Grant need to submit an online status report about the prior project(s) before being considered for a new CITRIS Seed Grant.

SELECTION CRITERIA CITRIS Seed Grant proposals are evaluated according to the following criteria:

1.  Feasibility: Can stated goals be achieved within 12-18 months? 2.  Creates solution to a societal challenge: Is societal problem and its scale clearly identified, and will proposal help address this challenge? 3.  Potential for follow-on funding: Has this area of research been identified by federal agencies or other funders for future investment? Will the seed grant help PIs make a stronger case for external funding?

SELECTION CRITERIA CITRIS Seed Grant proposals are evaluated according to the following criteria:

4.  Alignment with CITRIS research initiatives and/or charter of the Banatao Institute: Does the proposal further one or more of the CITRIS interest areas? Proposals also invited that support newly chartered Banatao Institute at CITRIS, which leverages UC expertise and IT solutions for the benefit of developing regions in U.S. and abroad. 5.  Use of CITRIS and the Banatao Institute research assets including the Marvell NanoLab, CITRIS Invention Lab, or other CITRISaffiliated testbeds is encouraged but not required. 6.  Inclusion of pre-tenured faculty is encouraged but not required.
