From the Principal Dear Parents and Guardians, I hope you all are doing well. I can’t believe we are already into the month of December. We have been very busy these first three months and are very excited about the growth that has occurred with your children. Over the next few weeks, we are going to be doing a small scale food drive for our local food shelf. The holiday season is about giving, and what a great way to support our character trait of compassion. We will be collecting items by classroom. Jim Jones is one of our Instructional Assistants who has been instrumental in this event, and is willing to deliver all the items collected. See more to the right. Last month came with some great family events, and I want to make a special thank you to our PTO for sponsoring events like Reading Night and Family Game Night. These are great opportunities for our families to connect with us as educators. We will be having more events, so if you missed one of them, no worries, we will be having more. Have a great rest of December, and thanks for the great support we have from each of you. Take care,
Food Drive We will be collecting non-perishable food beginning Thursday, December 7th, and will continue through Monday, December 18th. Some ideas include canned fruits and vegetables, dry beans, rice, pasta, peanut butter, rolled oats, soups, canned tuna or chicken, canned soups, stews or chili, spices. Thanks for helping those in our community who are currently in need!
Attendance Award This year we are recognizing our students with an Attendance Award per trimester. Criteria for earning an award: 1. Your child was here every day (absolute perfect attendance)! 2. ONLY ONCE … Your child left early at end of day or arrived late due to an appointment or excused absence type. PERFECT ATTENDANCE MEDAL: Students who have absolute perfect attendance for all 3 trimesters with no late arrival nor leaving early will be awarded a PERFECT ATTENDANCE MEDAL. We are celebrating the dedication and effort of having great attendance. Great attendance is an indicator of doing well in school. The more your child attends school the better chance we have at ensuring they are getting all the needed instruction to meet state standards and achieve academic success!
Primary News Literacy Update We spent half of our December 1st Professional Development day with a focus on literacy. I am very proud of the great conversations and team work around embedding great literacy instruction in our classrooms. Our students are taking time throughout the day to Read to Self, and picking out Good Fit Books. As a parent I remember trying ways to help our daughters find that love of reading. Here a a few ideas you can try in order to help your child love reading. 1. Ask questions when your child brings home a book. (Tell me about the book you are reading? Why did you choose this book?) 2. Find time to have your child read to you. 3. Ask questions about what they have read. (Before we turn the page, can you tell me what the character was doing in the book? Before we start reading, look at the pictures, what do you think this page is about?) 4. Read to your child. The more words your child is exposed to the more background knowledge they will have with their own reading.

Bluejacket Pride Celebration A special thank you to our PBIS team for planning our Bluejacket Pride celebrations this year. We have a special event this month -- school wide BINGO!! This is our first time doing something like this so we are excited about this option. Our students are so proud of their Bluejacket Pride tickets they receive at school as well as on the bus which is making a positive impact with students resulting in less negative bus incidents.

Attendance Line Remember, if your child will be absent or late you need to call our 24-hour attendance line. Please call that line early in the morning of your child’s absence. We do check that line each morning. The number is: 763-691-8770. For an attendance to be considered “excused” we must have a call or a note explaining the absence. Thanks!
