Message from the Faculty Leader

Program Itinerary

Dear Students,

Saturday, June 3 Day: Depart Austin to Strasbourg

Join me this summer in France as we explore the political philosophy and politics of the United States, France and the European Union. This program offers you the opportunity to live and study at the University of Strasbourg, founded in 1538. As home to the European Parliament, Council of Europe, European Court of Human Rights and other significant European political institutions, the city of Strasbourg offers us access to practitioners of European politics and their institutions. During this program you will learn about French and European politics from both faculty at the university and professionals in the field. This academically rigorous course should appeal not only to government and political science majors but also to those who are interested in international affairs, law, history, philosophy, and/or France. Our partner institution, the University of Strasbourg, offers exceptional faculty who will lecture and lead discussions on topics ranging from the political thought of the French Revolution to the founding of the European Union. Strasbourg’s situation in the Alsace region of France, which shares a border with Germany, allows us to gain a unique perspective on our studies from a region that straddles two cultures as well as a window into the legacy of WWII that provided the impetus for European integration. The history of the region and its people will inform our study and deepen our understanding of the importance and meaning of European integration. Expect to meet fascinating people, experience amazing lectures, and to participate in invigorating discussions and evening debates in the local “winestubs.” Outside of the classrooms and site visits we will explore the beautiful Alsace region of France, with a hike in the Vosges Mountains and an afternoon traveling the wine route. We will also be in Strasbourg during their annual summer music festival, fête de la musique, for which you will have the day off to enjoy. Bon voyage! Ted Hadzi-Antich Jr. Assistant Professor of Government (512) 223-3395 [email protected] Student participants must abide by all program rules and regulations. Program dates, itinerary, and fees are subject to change. Program fees are non-refundable.
