240 Parsons Avenue With mature shade trees and beautiful lawns, 240 Parsons Avenue is the perfect setting for HOT TIMES. The historic building on the site was constructed in 1874, on land donated by the citizens of Ohio, for use as the Ohio State School for the Blind. Throughout the years, the building has remained remarkably intact and is now leased by The City of Columbus, who renovated and modernized it for The Columbus Health Department. Jazz notables Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Art Tatum were educated here and directly across the street was James Thurber’s birthplace. The Community thanks the State of Ohio, Columbus Health Department and The City of Columbus for their continued support of the Hot Times Community Arts & Music Festival.

REMEMBER! Kojo Kamau - It’s hard to know what to say that expresses the depth of loss the Community has felt with the passing of Kojo. He was our collective historian documenting his and our lives and the greater Columbus Community. His work has been displayed all around the world. He is renowned for his beautiful portraiture and his historic shots of his travels. Arthur Baskerville - Everyone loved Art! His smile simply lit up the stage and his boogie woogie style on the keyboard got everybody up on their feet. Art played with the Listen For the Jazz All Star Band since it origins in the 1980s and was an original participant in the Jazz & Eggs Jam Sessions. John T. Fleming, was the CEO of Columbus-based Superior Beverage Group, the beer distributor that services Hot Times. John really enjoyed Hot Times and was a sponsor of the Festival for many years, he shared the Festival vision and would come and bring family and friends as often as he could. John was a strong supporter of many great events in the Columbus Community! Lanny Sterling - Lanny came to Olde Towne around 1979 and bought an abandoned house that he rehabbed and lived in for many years. Lanny was married to Lea Ann who was the author of the “Historic Homes Of Olde Towne” book. Tom Collins was a talented keyboard musician going back to age 10. He played in many bands over the years including: HooDoo Soul Band, Men of Leisure, TC and The Cats, Dave Workman Blues Band, Five Mighty People, Unknown Kind and several others. He appeared often at Hot Times. Stefan Luebkemann - He was always welcoming. Whenever a new neighbor would move in they were sure to find a dozen eggs from his Olde Towne chickens or a plant from his garden as a welcome present. We know he is looking down and smiling at seeing us all together having fun. He was a most extraordinary person. 16
