Who should attend: Institutions are particularly encouraged to register students from the following student populations: First-generation, Racial/ethnic minority, With disabilities, High financial need, and LGBTQI+. While students are not required to submit separate materials to “apply” to the GSLS, we do ask that nominating institutions identify students who: ● ● ● ● ● ●
Exhibit exceptional leadership potential Are engaged in the campus community Are able to speak thoughtfully about their experience abroad Will be able to engage in and contribute to the sessions and discussions throughout the GSLS Are likely to utilize what they’ve gained from the Summit and share with the campus community upon their return Have a GPA of a 3.0 or higher
NOTE: Nominating Institutions or Providers act as conference “Registrants”, and receive administrative updates from DAC organizers. As the nominator, please provide your own name and email address to initiate the Student Nomination process. Student nominations act as conference registrations and will automatically be accepted. 2018 prompt For years the education community has discussed the changing student demographics and how a more diverse student population, racially, economically and otherwise, would impact how professionals do their work. This is no longer a theory, it has become a reality. At the same time, as more diverse students go abroad, professionals must reconsider what student support looks like, and how reflective that is of the unique needs of diverse students. Reflect on your own experiences studying abroad, and consider what type of support you received from professionals during the study abroad process before, during, and after your program. Did you receive identity-based support? If so, how did that impact your preparedness abroad? If not, what kind of support would have been most beneficial for you? As global leaders, you represent the untapped potential that can transform the field into a more inclusive environment, and we want to know more about what you would do to improve the study abroad experience for your peers in the future. As you reflect on your recent study abroad experience and this year’s conference theme, N ew Realities and Untapped Potential, please share with us an innovative activity or program that you would create on campus to better support students of diverse backgrounds going abroad.
