Program Itinerary

Dear Students,

Saturday, June 30 Depart Austin for Palermo

Is travelling to Italy and spending three weeks learning the cuisine of three distinct and different regions while exploring ancient ruins and cultures a dream come true? How about living and studying in Palermo, Parma and Asti with tours to Rome, Cinque Terre and Florence? Would you also enjoy nine different culinary field trips? If so then this study abroad program is for you! During the summer of 2018 this program will travel to three regions of Italy staying for a week at a time in Palermo, Parma and Asti. In Palermo, we will study at the BE-CHEF culinary school. In Parma, we will study at the Academia Barilla school, and in Asti we will study at the AFP Colline Astigiane school. During the three weeks students will attend hands on classes in culinary arts working with English-speaking Italian chefs to learn the art of regional Italian cuisine traditional to these specific regions. When class is not in session, there will be planned excursions to vineyards, fish markets, parmigiano producers, Prosciutto di Parma producers, balsamic vinegar producers, gelato producers, Grappa distillery, farm to table dinner, and many other cuisine and cultural events. Students will have free time to explore the towns and meet the locals, as well as eat the local cuisine! This will be my first study abroad program with ACC and the Culinary Arts students! I am very excited for the opportunity to learn and enjoy the culture and cuisine alongside the students. A class like this will make a huge impact on all our careers and lives, not only by learning Italian culinary techniques, but also the experience of living in another country and absorbing the culture. I look forward to having you join us! Cucina Felice, Chef David Waggoner
