Program Itinerary

What better place to study Art History than Italy where students can gain first-hand experience of art and architecture from the Ancient world through Modern times?

Sunday, May 20 Depart Austin for Florence

We will live in the historic center of Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, immersed in its art, culture, and history. We will explore architectural sites and study paintings and sculptures in their original locations. Museum field trips allow close-up examination of original masterpieces by Botticelli, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and many others. We will also enjoy a day trip to picturesque Siena, a nearby Tuscan city with one of the most beautiful piazzas in the world. In Rome, we will explore Ancient ruins, tour the Vatican, and visit Modern and Contemporary art venues. Highlights include the Pantheon, Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s basilica, Raphael’s frescos, Baroque illusionistic ceilings, and the intimate Borghese Gallery with exquisite works by Bernini and Caravaggio. The program includes a trip to Venice. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Venice is itself a living museum with stunning examples of Byzantine, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture and art. It is also a renowned center for Modern and Contemporary art with important private collections and exhibitions of cutting-edge art. By the end of the program, students will have a rich understanding and appreciation for the interconnection of art, culture, and history. Studying abroad is a transformative experience. Students gain new perspective of the world, confidence, and self-reliance. Most importantly, memorable experiences and close friendships will continue to impact participants’ lives. I am passionate about Art History, Italy, and the opportunity for ACC students to study abroad. I hope you can join me for this exciting journey!
