RULES GOVERNING CONDUCT & ADMINISTRATION OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE Generally speaking, Roberts Rules of Order (Revised Edition) shall govern the conduct of meetings of the Wakefield School Committee, to the extent that they are applicable and not inconsistent with the written policies of the Committee. Meetings may be conducted in a less formal manner as long as it is accepted by all members of the Committee. A copy of Roberts Rules will be provided to each member of the Wakefield School Committee. The committee may, from time to time, wish to revise its standing roles. This may be done by a vote of the majority of the committee members. Punctual attendance at all meetings of the Committee is expected. If a member will not be able to attend for any reason, they shall notify the Chairman as soon as possible. The Committee shall expect the Superintendent to be present at all meetings. If he or she cannot attend, they should notify the Chairman as soon as possible and send a suitable representative to the meeting. The Committee will vote on agenda items based upon a recommendation from the Superintendent, except in those cases where the agenda item is being presented by a School Committee member. The School Committee shall require from the Superintendent such periodic reporting as the Committee may deem necessary to keep it properly informed on the administration of the schools. The School Committee will allow for participation in its proceedings by the public by ensuring there is an agenda item at each business meeting entitled Public Participation. All communications addressed to any member of the School Committee or to any employee of the School department for the attention of the School Committee shall be considered a communication to the Committee of the Whole as well as to all members as individuals. All Communications signed by any member of the School Committee or by any employee of the School Department in response to a communication to the School Committee, or in officially
informing the addressee of Committee action shall be confined to the content of the Committee action. The School Committee shall, on an annual basis, create, for discussion and vote, a Roles and Responsibilities Framework which shall delineate the roles and responsibilities between the Committee and the Superintendent of Schools for the upcoming school year.
