August 16, 2016 Dear Parents, Welcome back to another year at Sedgwick School! We are continuing our Community Service project for 5th graders. Today, your children heard about the importance of giving back to the entire Sedgwick community including staff and parents who both work hard to support your child. Our goal is for your child to take pride in giving back to the community or paying it forward to the community. There are a variety of jobs at Sedgwick that need to be completed each year, and we ask that every 5th grade student participate in one of these jobs for a trimester. Students are asked to list (3) service jobs they would like to take on, and we will review all preferences before assignments are made, attempting to make assignments based on preferences and teacher recommendations. Attached are the descriptions of the jobs available. Please discuss with your child which job best fits their disposition. Does your child like to work with young children? A good match might be Kindergarten Lunch Assistant or Kinder Play Team. Is your child a confident and clear speaker? A good match might be Morning Announcements. Another thing to keep in mind is timing. If your child wants to join student council or join a lunch club, signing up for a recess or lunch job may conflict with these other upcoming opportunities. Students who have a difficult time arriving at school on time should avoid the morning jobs. On the final page of this letter is the job choice form to complete and return to your child’s classroom teacher by Thursday, August 18th. Training for jobs will begin on Monday, August 25th.
