SOUTH DAKOTA BOARD OF EDUCATION NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING CONTENT STANDARDS
A public hearing will be held at MacKay Building, First Floor, Library Commons Area, 800 Governors Drive, Pierre, South Dakota on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Central Time, to consider the adoption and implementation of the following career and technical education content standards. This is the second of four public hearings regarding these standards. 7-12 Architecture & Construction: The goal of the 7-12 Architecture & Construction standards is to support students in exploring careers and developing technical skills in designing, planning, managing, building and maintaining the built environment. 7-12 Education & Training: The goal of the 7-12 Education & Training standards is to support students in exploring careers and developing technical skills in planning, managing and providing education and training services and related learning support services. 7-12 Foundational Career & Technical Education: The goal of the 7-12 Foundational Career & Technical Education standards is to support students in exploring careers and developing leadership and employability skills for careers in each of the sixteen career clusters. 7-12 Information Technology The goal of the 7-12 Information Technology standards is to support students in exploring careers and developing technical skills in the design, development, support and management of hardware, software, multimedia and systems integration services. 7-12 Law, Public Safety, Security & Corrections: The goal of the 7-12 Law, Public Safety, Security & Corrections standards is to support students in exploring careers and developing technical skills in planning, managing, and providing legal, public safety, and protective services, including professional and technical support services. 7-12 Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM): The goal of the 7-12 STEM standards is to support students in exploring careers and developing technical skills in planning, managing and providing scientific research and professional and technical services (e.g., physical science, social science, engineering) including laboratory and testing services, and research and development services. Written public comment must reach the Department no later than January 5, 2016, to be considered at the hearing.
