Invitation to the Westchester Undergraduate Research Conference Dear Faculty and Students, We are pleased to welcome your participation in 3rd annual Westchester Undergraduate Research Conference, sponsored by Manhattanville College and Mercy College, to be held on Friday, April 4, 2013 from 9 AM to 3 PM. The purpose of the conference is for undergraduate students to present their research on topics in the social, behavioral, health, or natural sciences, liberal arts, or education. The conference to be held at Mercy College in the Rotunda (Dobbs Ferry campus), will include platform and poster presentations. We can accommodate two platform presentations and six posters from each institution. If your institution would like to submit additional posters, please let us know and we will try to accommodate as many as possible. Projects submitted must be original and involve scholarly research. They need not be completely finished; however, ongoing projects will be accepted. Students must be working with a faculty mentor who is overseeing the project. The selection process will be conducted by each institution for its students, and will determine whether a student will present in a platform or poster format. Judging will not take place at the conference. Please email the name, address, and abstract for each student who is presenting to the attention of Dr. Kimberly A. Rapoza at

Guidelines for Posters 1.
Poster presentations are displays on poster boards. Posters must be prepared in advance and displayed on one side of a display or poster board. Posters should measure no more than 48-inches wide and 36-inches high. Display boards and easels will be provided. Presenters should be at their posters to interact with those attending. 9:30– 10:30 – Poster Presentations 2 – 3 – Poster Presentations

Posters must be legible from at least three feet away. Presentation titles should be at least two inches high. Beneath the title, the name(s) of the student author(s), faculty advisor and school/department should be at least one inch high. The first element in the display below the header should contain the following: i. Title of project ii. Project collaborators – student authors and advisors iii. Institution/department

Posters can be printed as a single page using programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint.

If it is appropriate, the funding agency which provided support for the project should be identified with the word "Sponsor: . . ."

Guidelines for Platform Presentations 1.
Individuals will have 10 minutes to present followed by a 5-minute question and answer session.
2.
The title and focus of the research should be clear from the beginning.
3.
Less is often more.
4.
The maximum number of slides should be 10-12.
5.
Images should be used rather than words when possible.
6.
Slides should be easy to read and understand at a distance.
7.
Practice your presentation for clarity and timing.
8.
Avoid reading slides to the audience.
9.
Be prepared for questions from the audience at the end of your presentation.
