Max. Marks : 100 Note : 1) Answer any four full questions. 2) Any missing data may suitably be assumed. 3) Use of IS : 800, 811, 801 and Steel Table are permitted.

1. Design a gantry girder to be used in an industrial building carrying EOT crane for the following data : a) Span of the girder is 6.5 m b) Span of crane girder is 16 m c) Crane capacity is 250.0 kN d) Self weight of crane girder excluding trolley is 280.0 kN e) Self weight of trolley is 50 kN f) Minimum hook approach is 1.0 m g) Distance between wheels = 3.5 m h) Self weight of rails is 0.3 kN/m i) Height of rail section = 70 mm and take fy = 250 MPa, E = 2 × 106 MPa.

2. a) Mention the advantages and disadvantages of light gauge steel structure.

b) Explain stiffened, un-stiffened elements and multi-stiffened elements.

c) A square box section 200 mm × 200 mm × 2 mm shown in fig. 1 is to be used as a column of effective length 4 meters. Find the maximum load it can carry.

3. The span of knee roof trusses used over an industrial building 28 m long is 18 m the spacing of roof trusses is 4 m, the pitch of the roof truss is 1 in 4. The galvanized corrugated iron sheets are used for roof covering. The basic wind pressure is 1.5 kN/m2 and there is no snow fall. The height of eaves above ground level is 8 m. Propose a suitable type of roof truss. The horizontal force along the rails over the gantry girder due to EOH crane is 23.4 kN. The height of rails is 5 m above the base. Take maximum compressive force in one rafter of the roof truss as 86.0 kN. Design vertical side bracing and the rafter bracing. 25 4. a) Explain the moment curvature relationship.

b) Find the collapse load factor for the continuous beam shown in fig. (2) span AB has fully plastic moment 2 Mp, span BC has Mp and span CD, 1.5 Mp.
