The Parish of St Wilfrid of York 53 London Road, Coalville, Leics, LE67 3JB THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT 14/15th December 2013 First Reading: Isaiah 35: 1-6:10—God Himself is coming to save you. Psalm Response: Come, Lord and save us. Second Reading: James 5:7-10—Do not lose heart for the Lord’s coming will be soon. Gospel: Matthew 11: 2-11 Are you the one who is to come? Gaudete Sunday (meaning rejoice) is a time to rejoice as we remember that the Lord is near. Like Laetare Sunday in Lent, it’s an opportunity to take a little step back from our preparation for the coming Christmas season to reflect upon why and how we are preparing for this celebration. It’s never too late to start your own journey of preparation and you might even do something very simple like coming to Mass a little earlier to take time to listen to what God has to say to you. If you live a busy life, filled with hectic activity, it could be a treasured opportunity to take a few minutes to sit quietly and just say “speak Lord, your servant is listening.” On the subject of ’Rejoice’, the staff and pupils of our community’s primary school, St Clare’s, invites all of you to come and join them, in their rejoicing, at their annual Carol Service this Friday 20th December at 2pm here at St Wilfrid’s. Our secondary school, De Lisle College, will, I’m sure, also be rejoicing following their Ofsted inspection this week. You can keep in touch, as to how they get on, via the parish website but do keep both schools in your prayers as they enter the last week of term along with their parents and grandparents whose exceptional care, brilliant activity organisation and sensational riot control capacity goes beyond the call of duty in the holiday time... May God continue to bless you in your vocations! (Fr David)
