American Meteorological Society Job Posting – Policy Program Assistant The American Meteorological Society (AMS) promotes the development and dissemination of information and education on the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences and the advancement of their professional applications. The AMS is currently accepting applications for the position of Policy Program Assistant in the AMS Policy Program. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree and have excellent communication and organizational skills. Relevant experience is a plus but not required. The Program Assistant will report directly to the Director of the AMS Policy Program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Supports all aspects of the Policy Program’s activities and operations
Assists with program development and implementation
Helps plan and implement Capitol Hill briefings (www.ametsoc.org/cb)
Plans and contributes to Policy Program studies, meetings, and events (www.ametsoc.org/studies)
Provides support for the AMS Summer Policy Colloquium (www.ametsoc.or/spc)
Contributes to outreach efforts focused on the executive and legislative branches, the scientific community, the media, and the public
Helps organize and coordinate Policy Program communication efforts including: developing program literature and publications, helping to design, create, and update the Policy Program website and serving as a liaison on behalf of the Policy Program to policy makers, the media, the AMS membership, and the private sector.
Assists with fundraising efforts, primarily through grant writing
Provides administrative and office management support as needed
Other duties as necessary to contribute to the overall success of the Society
Qualifications:
Bachelors’ degree
Excellent written and oral communication capabilities
Organizational skills
This is a full-time position, located in our Washington D.C. office. The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience.
