JESUS ASCENDS TO HEAVEN WEEK B-E7

MARK 16:15-20

He said to them, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents [with their hands], and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.

1. Understand It!

Baptized

The first sacrament where a person becomes a part of the Church.

Condemned

To express complete disapproval and sentence to a particular punishment.

Accompany

To go somewhere with someone.

Preached

To teach a religious message or belief.

2. Explore It! In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells His disciples to spread the good news. Whoever is baptized will be saved. Whoever does not believe will be punished. After Jesus speaks to His disciples, He ascends into heaven and rejoins God the Father. His disciples went and preached about the Kingdom of heaven.

3. Connect It! Jesus’ ascension to heaven signals the end of His earthly ministry. God the Father had sent His son into the world to save mankind, and now the Son returned to the Father because Jesus had fulfilled that mission. Although Jesus has left this world to be with the Father, His message remains through the directions given to the disciples. As the disciples had carried out Jesus’ call to share the Good News and bring others to Christ, so too are we called to do the same. We are not only called to be good Christians, we are also called to share our faith and help others discover all that God does for us.

4. Live It! [ ENCOURAGEMENT ] Encouragement means to give someone support, confidence, or hope. Encouragement can come in many forms, may it be through verbal support or actions to convey support. Jesus gives His disciples encouragement through words and actions. This week, make an extra effort at school and at Thieu Nhi to give encouragement to your peers. Give positive encouragement and compliments to create a positive environment each day this week. Here are some compliments you can say to your peers.

“So then the lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God.” (Mark 16:19)

5. Pray It! My Dear Lord Jesus, You have given us strength and encouragement. We praise You for all You have done and given us. Help us also help others and give them encouragement. We know You are with us and will always be by our side to guide us through each day. Amen.
