SCIENCE EVERYDAY: AN INVITATION TO EXPLORE JUNEAU! Continued from pg. 1 The highlight of this conference in LA was meeting with early childhood educators to promote the importance of early science experiences for children – indoors as well as outdoors. Ms. Thompson supports science experiences in her first grade classroom every day. Young children are authentically curious and observant of the world around them. They build ideas as they test out how things work. This is how children learn: using their senses, exploring the natural materials in our environment and building Adina observes and describes the connections from prior experiences. Listen to texture, weight, color and size of a your child as they tell you their ideas. Spring is a great time to get outdoors and explore, noticing volcanic rock. signs of new life and earth materials - Life science! Talk about the weather and ask your child what patterns they notice – Earth Science! Hike, play, climb and investigate playground activities; sliding, swinging, jumping and using balance and motion – Physical Science! Give your child recyclable materials to plan, design and explore creative inventions – Engineering!
Science investigations and conversations can be part of our everyday experiences!
