FirstNet

Public Safety has a mission critical data network just like they have a separate two-way radio network for voice communications.

Public Safety currently relies on the same commercial carriers as the general public for data.

Public safety data takes priority on carrier mobile networks.

Commercial carriers cannot provide priority or exclusivity for public safety.

In a disaster or other emergencies, public safety can take over carrier networks.

Public safety has no means of preempting users on carrier networks.

This is Your Commercial Carrier Network

This is Your Commercial Carrier Network During High Congestion

Global mobile data traffic grew 81 percent in 2013

In 2013, the number of mobile-connected tablets increased 2.2-fold to 92 million, up from 36 million in 2012. Each tablet generated 2.6 times more traffic than the average smartphone.

Land-Mobile Radio is here to stay…

…but voice is not enough

Mobile data is for first responders

critical

Which do we want for our public safety professionals?

We must start planning for the future now

FirstNet is the first Public Safety Broadband Network that will provide emergency responders with the a nationwide, high-speed data and cellular voice network dedicated to public safety. FirstNet will be a force multiplier, increasing collaboration to help emergency responders save more lives, solve more crimes and keep our communities safer.

Infrastructure Build-out  FirstNet NOT local jurisdictions, will fund the public safety broadband infrastructure.  FirstNet will offer network access pricing that is comparable to commercial carrier networks.

Local Jurisdictions: •At this time, the plan assumes that jurisdictions will purchase the end-user devices (aircards, modems, handhelds) •Agencies will pay FirstNet instead of their current commercial carrier
