SUMMARY/MINUTES OF THE PARK PUBLIC SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING APRIL 5, 2016

March Minutes – review and approve: Kimberlee McNally-Stone motioned to pass March minutes Seconded by Melissa Goyette-Gow. Motion passed.

Principal’s Report: Hot dog day was AWESOME! There were extra hot dogs from the day and the idea was proposed for them to be used in another fundraiser to help offset costs for Grade 5 graduation. rd

This is the 3 year that Park School achieved Gold Level as an Eco School. Great job all! Chris McKools put on a great concert! There is a thought about pursuing a vegetable box for each grade. The Bag to School event netted $100. Thanks to all who participated! Jim has signed off on the concept of an outdoor classroom space. Still waiting on a few kindergarten registrations. Heather generated a volunteer list for the staff for Fun Day and posted it in the staff room. Help for this event is greatly appreciated! Rick B. has ordered the computers but he is still waiting on 26 computers and monitors. There may be funds available for add ons but will wait until the computers have arrived. An update regarding the gym projector: not happy with the company providing this so looking into another provider.

Treasurer’s Report: Updates: Dance a thon raised $3595.67 however expenses still need to be debited, therefore amount raised should be just over $3000. Hot dog day generated $217.81. $6511.90 unallocated, available to be spent. Council approved the use of remaining Pro Grant funds to be used by the Kindie Team for Kindergarten Orientation (approx.. $135), Toni to discuss with the Kindie Team. Council also agreed to allocate the remaining PIC money ($450) to off-set some Fun Day costs.

Update on fundraising: Hot dog day was a success! Thought is to have the grade 5’s host a host a hot dog day with the remaining hot dogs in order to fund grade 5 graduation. Saley will help to organize the event. Magazine orders did not go out before Easter Weekend due to the snowstorm so unfortunate timing. Magazine orders are due April 15. Melissa to ask Sandi Bussman to put the information about QSP magazine offer into the Panda.

2016/17 Fundraising plan – Big box of cards set in motion for the fall. Sales kit be distributed at open house night. The big box of cards will include just birthday cards. Two dance a thons during the year with DJ Mr. B. Fun Day Possible pancake day Possible QSP orders - Melissa to ask if we can just have online orders. Melissa will report back in May and let us know how many paper orders came in. Possibility of silent auction; Kimberlee - canvassing businesses starting in the fall with baskets to be bid on during the Christmas season (Christmas concert), on-line.

Pro Grant funds: Pro Grant application for next year is due May 29. Saley will complete the on-line application. Parent council agrees that we should apply again for this grant. Please think about some ideas in the next couple of weeks to put forward. Some immediate ideas with the funds from the pro grant are: Magic show / anti bullying message / IncrediBrent & Super Sarah / Errol Lee Storytellers Saley to ask Friends for Harmony about other programs other than the Vibe Tribe

Fun Day Update: Shannon and team working hard and doing a great job. There will be a photo booth this year! The group agreed that the library (close to staff room) would be a great loction. Erin Ruppel is working on donations so if anyone has any contacts for donations please contact Erin. Working with McMaster Meats for food and owner is barbequing so only volunteers needed to pass out food. Saley and Bridgit are organizing tickets and the plan is to announce cashless orders in the Panda two weeks prior to sales within the school. Heather is working on a volunteer form for the parent community and has posted the volunteer form for the staff. Bridgit has organized about 15 high school volunteers for fun day so far. There is a sub committee working on communications for posters etc highlighting the event.

Funds Remaining to be allocated: Council previously approved $2000 to fund a projector in gym. Additional discussion on the outdoor learning area for the back playground. A vote was held and Council approved $9000 to be put toward this initiative. Toni to discuss with the Board and determine next steps, RFP/tender process.
