In Electric Arc furnace the raw materials i.e sponge iron & other ingredients are charged at the furnace and melted by electric arc through 3 nos of graphite electrode at about 1550°C. After melting of raw materials, refining starts (removal tramp elements like S,P & other tramp elements). P is removed as P2O5 at the oxidising stage of refining & S is removed as sulphides at the reducing stage through slag. After refining the ferro alloys are added to get the desired chemical composition required as per the specification. The temperature of the liquid metal is raised to 1800°C & tapped to ladle and shifted to CCM for billet casting.
