Message from the Managing Director Welcome to Africa Risk Institute (ARI) - a boutique Risk Management firm offering advisory, training and placement services in this emerging discipline. 2015 is poised to be a year of great significance for Africa-based Risk professionals. Regulators are increasingly benchmarking with global standards; the war against terror has gone a notch higher as a result of terrorists becoming bolder and super-sophisticated thereby spawning a dire need for institutions to develop and implement strategies and measures against Anti-Money Laundering/Counter Terrorism Financing; the increase in pandemic incidences like Ebola are exposing the weak business contingency management strategies within institutions; wealth from the increasing middle class is creating a push-effect for innovative investment products; and the global push away from the NGO business model in favour of Public-Private-Partnerships (PPP or P3) as a sustainable model of using private sector to finance public sector projects is creating new opportunities of immense proportions that need to be well understood; among other developments. As a solution-oriented business, our training programs are created to closely mirror these developments to ensure that we maintain relevance to our clients. Towards this end, we shall provide both accredited programmes in conjunction with our Certification partners as well as a variety of open, professional development courses. Additionally, we have requisite capacity to tailor specific courses to the individual needs of organizations, including internal certification programmes using our e-learning capabilities. Our business model revolves around Risk as a vertical. This model is supported by the strong core team of professionals in our team with cross-cutting experience backed up by qualifications in diverse fields including Financial Risk, Energy Risk, Banking and Finance, Corporate Finance, Project Finance, IT, etc. Our focus in 2015 is to offer our programmes in East, Central and West Africa. We look forward to your continued support in 2015 as we help to demystify Risk!

2. OUR TRAINING SERVICES Our approach to training does not follow the traditional 'rote learning' method, but rather a client-centric program tailored to the actual needs of your organization which is based on the adult learning methodology which respects the following key principles: ü

Focus on “real world” problems as opposed to abstract constructs;

ü

Emphasize how the learning can be applied;

ü

Relate the learning to the learners' goals;

ü

Relate the materials to the learners' past experiences;

ü

Allow debate and challenge of ideas;

ü

Listen to and respect the opinions of learners;

ü

Encourage learners to be resources to you and to each other;

ü

Treat learners like adults; and

ü

Allow learners to “control”.

The team further benefits immensely from a pool of partners and associate trainers which allows for exchange of resources on a need-basis.

ü

Training is focused, practical and results oriented. Our expert trainers write and deliver their own course materials and construct practical exercises and discussions based on real experience, ensuring delegates always derive the maximum practical benefits from a course.

2.2 Our Training Methodology Our training workshops are interactive and involve short lectures, group discussions, and case studies. The cases used in the workshops are actual cases encountered in the market (with names and some key facts disguised). Further, we have developed on-line tools that form a crucial information gathering tool at two levels: ü

Pre-course questionnaire: - These will be completed by all participants online. They help to profile the course attendees in terms of their age, gender, experience, etc. Such profiles ensure that the trainers 'pitch' at the right level that addresses all the needs of the participants.

ü

Post-course questionnaire: This ensures that participants rate our course from various aspects, including content, relevance, delivery, trainer competence, etc. we will provide a compiled report and analysis of the responses for your future decision making.

2.3 Certification programs At Africa Risk Institute we pride ourselves in offering professional risk management certification training in partnership with institutions and established certifying bodies globally. Like our Open programs below, our Certification programs are tailored to specific industry needs to ensure the existence of an adequate pool of certified professionals for effective industry interventions. Whereas we currently have accreditation from Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) and the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI), we are in discussions with other partners to widen our sectoral coverage to include compliance/AML/CFT; Public-Private-Partnerships (PPP Certification); Project Management; and Information Management, to name a few.
