Creative Calgary- Art Works Actions - Call for Submissions Creative Calgary Art Works are 14 artistic events - One in each Ward in Calgary, happening between August 21st , and October 6th, 2017. The goal of these actions is to mobilize citizens and garner the support of City Council candidates to close the arts funding gap and boost Calgary’s creative sector. The Creative Calgary team is working with the community to raise $1,000 per ward for a total of $14,000, which will be matched by the central campaign. The total, $28,000 ($2000/ action), will fund Calgary artists to create the 14 artistic actions. Creative Calgary is now accepting applications from Calgary artists who are interested in creating an Art Works action. Submissions will be assessed based on the quality of event plan and strategy for community engagement: ● Actions should be open to the public (i.e. no admission fee) have a clear plan to reach a minimum of 100 community member attendees. All municipal election candidates running will be invited to attend the action. Candidates that have pledged support for Creative Calgary will be invited to make a short address to event participants. ● We encourage interested teams to reach out to their existing community groups (both artistic and neighbourhood based) as well as Calgary businesses (such as coffee shops, local merchants, or corporate sponsors) to gain support and/or sponsorship for their event. ● Creative Calgary will work to support events with volunteer and planning resources wherever possible; however, actions need to be self-sustaining and delivered within the maximum $2,000 budget per event. ● Up to $1,000 can be paid to cover booking fees or other deposit expenses. ● The $2,000 Art Works payment can cover artist fees and can be supplemented by other funding sources. Our goal is to create stronger ties between artists, neighbourhood organisations, local businesses, and the Calgary corporate community, all of whom benefit from the Calgary arts community being a strong and vibrant part of this city. Creative Calgary is a multi-disciplinary project and we are open to any events that can be created on time, and on budget, through any mode or medium the artist desires!
