Press Release SADE is pleased to present “Between Hester and Wrong,” a solo exhibition by Asger Carlsen, with an opening reception on Sunday, May 3, from 7 – 10pm. The exhibition’s title is taken from two series of work by the artist (WRONG, 2010, and HESTER, 2012) that were featured at the V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark, and this show collectively refers to both the content of the exhibitions and the potential for a dialogue between the images on view. This is his first showing in Los Angeles. WRONG: “‘Based on a true story’ Asger Carlsen’s series of haunting and disturbing images denote a twisted world in daily happenings … If on this side of the looking glass we are immersed by the simulacrum’s clean artifice of advertorial images, ‘Wrong’ has broken through the looking glass into a parallel visual culture, thus creating strikingly original images as well as commenting on the current trend of photographic culture.” — Publisher’s Description of “Wrong,” 2010 HESTER: “Photography would be the material. He started shooting nude models, including himself, in the studio and building objects and merging the two digitally. The result is Hester, named after the street in New York where Carlsen has his studio, sculptures sculpted from photography and presented in the studio setting where they were created.” –– “Hester” press release, 2014 Asger Carlsen (b. 1973, Denmark) lives and works in New York. He has exhibited internationally and his work has been featured in The New Yorker, Vice, The Journal and Garage Magazine. “Between Hester and Wrong” will be on view at SADE (204 South Avenue 19, Los Angeles, CA 90031) through May 30, 2015.
