ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY As one of the oldest Indian Universities, it is well known for imparting higher education in traditional and contemporary areas of science, engineering, arts, commerce, law and fine arts with international standards and recognition. Initiated by the founder Vice-chancellor Dr. C.R. Reddy in 1926, legendaries like Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a great philosopher and a role model for the human race who later rose to the position of Vice-president of India, Dr. V.S. Krishna, a great visionary have continued the tradition of initiating innovative academic programs of national and international relevance and contributed to sustained development of this University. The exponential growth in the enrolment of foreign students is a testimony to its international commitment and quality education. Five constituent colleges and five P.G. Centers of the University provide quality training and research leading to Masters and Doctoral degrees in more than 160 courses. Apart from under graduate programmes in Engineering and Technology the University offers Under graduate degree programmes with a variety of combinations of subjects in B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com courses. Believing in more focused training in professional courses, the University recently started five year integrated programmes in fields like Geology, Information Technology and Software Engineering. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF LISC The Department of Library and Information Science, Andhra University had its origin in 1935 when the Senate sanctioned a summer school as well as a regular school of librarianship. Dr. M.O.Thomas, M.A., B.D., Ph.D., Dip. L.S. (London), F.L.A. organized these courses. The courses were revived in 1948, and C.L.Sc. and D.L.Sc. courses were conducted till 1958.In 1961 Prof. Koneru Ramakrishna Rao took charge as Chief Librarian and Head, Department of Library Science, He bought with him a rich and varied experience of Library Science Education and Library Services from Western Countries. In compliance with the U.G.C. recommendations, the C.L.Sc. course was discontinued in 1962. In the year 1968 the Department attained the status of a full-fledged Teaching Department. The Diploma course was redesigned as Bachelor of Library and Information Science (1979). In 1979-80, the Master of Library and Information Science programme was started in response to the felt need of the students of this department.
The Department has been providing facilities for the pursuit of Research Studies leading to the award of Doctor of Philosophy since 1966 for part-time research, while fulltime research admissions took place from 198081.Since 1990,the Department started offering M.Phil. Course, both full time and part time. As per UGC guidelines in 2003, two year integrated M.L.I.Sc.course was introduced in the place of one year B.L.I.Sc. and one year M.L.I.Sc. Courses. So far the Department has produced 72 Ph.Ds. and 60 M.Phils. DR.V.S.KRISHNA LIBRARY The Andhra University Library was started in the year 1927, renamed as V.S.Krishna Memorial Library in 1968 as a mark of respect to the former Vice-Chancellor Dr. V.S.Krishna. The Library has two branch Libraries, one in Engineering College and other in Law College. The Library is housed in an imposing structure overlooking the sea. It has three floors and one cellar floor. The ground and first floors have mezzanine floors too. The plan view of the building is in T shape, having East, West and Northern wings. The total plinth area of the building is about 60,000 sqft. The main functionaries of the Library are the Circulation, Periodicals, Reference, Acquisition, Binding and Technical sections apart from the Administrative and Computers sections. Call for papers

TOURIST ATTRACTION Visakhapatnam (or Vizag) is the largest city in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The city and its region contain natural features such as beaches along the Bay of Bengal coast, scenic hills, valleys, and caves, as well as landmarks in the city itself. Eco-tourism is supported by the presence of national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.
