The Shawangunk-Catskill Area Grotto invited you to the Fall 2013 NRO being held September 20-22 located in the scenic Mid-Hudson Valley of New York. Plenty of adventures await both below and above ground. The NRO venue is a long time caver favorite, The Widow Jane Mine on the Snyder Estate, located at 668 Route 213 in Rosendale, NY. The entrance to the Snyder estate is on the north side of route 213, one mile west of Rosendale town center. Please see attached map for more detail. There will be plenty of rustic camping spots on the Snyder Estate. We are planning some on site activities, including a vertical workshop lead by our grotto members who are involved with search and rescue. So bring your vertical gear! CCG will be cooking up some delicious breakfasts on both Saturday and Sunday, while NNJG will be serving us a scrumptious dinner Saturday night. SCAG would like to encourage everyone to bring their own washable plates, silverware, and cups. Lowering the amount of materials going into the solid waste stream is important to us, so there will be a yummy surprise for those who bring their own re-useable place setting. Recycling bins will be provided for any returnable bottles, all proceeds will go to a local animal charity. Friday evening entertainment will include guest speaker Dr. Luis Espinsasa of Marist College who will discuss his research on the cave biology of the fissure caves of the Shawangunks. Many of these locations are rarely accessed. Relaxing and catching up with old friends around the fire will follow. Bring musical instruments for an open jam session around the fire, or just to see how the mine changes the acoustics of your sound. Saturday night entertainment includes the NCC Auction followed by live music provided by 4 Gun Ridge (local rock band). The band will be playing on a new stage built in the mine, so bring your dancing shoes. When you need a rest from dancing, put your feet up by the fire and exchange caving adventure stories. The mid-Hudson valley, Shawangunks, and Catskills offer a plethora of outdoor activities. There are limestone caves, talus caves, fissure caves, and mines in the immediate area to explore. We are also not far from the classic Schoharie area caves. Hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, tubing, mountain biking, and site seeing are all favorites in the Hudson Valley. Please refer to the attached registration form for pricing information. The NRO registration will open at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 20, 2013. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or suggestions. Cara Gentry SCAG President
